Chapter 60 A Stunning Success
"Thanks, y'all, for squeezing this seminar into your crazy schedules." Tessa strutted down from upstairs, her eyes scanning the room like she owned the place.
Oliver let out a low whistle. "Man, after all these years, she's still got that scary vibe."
Adeline raised an eyebrow. "You know her?"
"Yeah, she's from the Livingston family. Did a stint in the military, now she's into business," Oliver said. "Trust me, don't mess with her; she could knock you out with one punch."
Adeline took the hint, munching on a piece of fruit candy, looking all innocent.
Tessa was a knockout, with those deep-set eyes and all.
She had that classy vibe going on.
Then she said, "The Livingston family has some gifts for everyone."
With that, she clapped her hands, and bam, a gift box popped up next to each seat.
Inside were reishi mushrooms, maca, antrodia camphorata, and cold hard cash!
Adeline's eyes sparkled with amusement.
Matthew, sitting nearby, snickered, "Some folks probably never seen such fancy stuff; their eyes are practically popping out!"
Oliver rolled his eyes at Matthew.
Adeline didn't care. The Livingston family's gifts were indeed pretty fancy.
Plus, she could take them home to Robert.
She didn't let Matthew's snark stop her.
Tessa looked around; most folks were hesitant, not touching the gift boxes.
Even the Mitchells and Coopers seemed unimpressed by the cash.
Tessa felt a bit let down. Were the big four families of Eldoria all this fake?
In business, Tessa had one rule that nobody hated money. If they did, you just ain't offered enough.
Just as she was about to look away, she spotted Adeline slipping the reishi mushroom into her black bag.
Tessa grinned. "Looks like this young lady appreciates the Livingston family's gift."
With that grin, all eyes were on Adeline again.
The room was full of disdainful looks.
Sara shook her head. "She really doesn't belong here."
Harold was glad he had already distanced himself from her.
Stella hid her laughter behind her tea.
Seeing everyone misunderstood, Tessa was about to explain.
But Adeline spoke up, clear as day, "Yep, the Livingston family's gifts are top-notch."
Matthew snorted. "Who here doesn't know the Livingston family's stuff is good? But no one's as eager as you to grab it!"
"Exactly!" the crowd echoed.
Adeline's eyes sparkled, and she tapped the gift box with her fingers. "Sometimes I wonder if the Cooper family knows anything about medicine."
Matthew was fuming. "You've dissed the Cooper family over and over, and we've let it slide, but today, you're not getting away with it!"
Adeline's gaze was steady. "How can someone I already crippled not let me off?"
"You!" Matthew was about to charge at her.
Sara slammed the table. "I don't care who you are, but if you dare insult the Cooper family like this, you better have a damn good explanation!"
Oliver tugged at Adeline's sleeve, thinking, 'You're too fierce. I can't cover for you. Summer said you were obedient and sensible! Is this obedient and sensible?'
Oliver frantically signaled to Adeline.
"An explanation?" Adeline stayed cool. "What did I just pack?"
Matthew sneered, "Reishi mushroom. Don't tell me you don't even recognize reishi mushroom?"
In a flash, Sara seemed to catch on and tried to stop her!
But it was too late.
