Chapter 45 Taking Matters into His Own Hands

She held the invite between her fingers, eyes slightly raised. "Go tell Ms. Cooper we'll be there on time. But the Cooper family better not start any drama."

"You think the Cooper family is trouble?!" Matthew laughed, all cocky. "Let me set you straight! No one in Eldoria messes with the Coopers. In Eldoria, the Coopers are the law. Remember that."

Adeline bit into a candy, her eyes dark and deep.

Matthew flicked his sleeve and strutted off.

Adeline watched his back, squinting slightly.

At first, Matthew didn't think much of his twisted arm. But as he walked out of the alley and got into the car, his face suddenly changed!

Why did his hand feel numb?

Matthew tried to shake it, but his joints felt all disconnected, limp and useless!

"Quick! Go home! Find Sara!" Matthew shouted, breaking into a cold sweat.

Could his hand be messed up for good?

"No, it can't be," Matthew muttered, pale-faced. "Sara can definitely fix it!"

The driver, clueless, turned to look at him. "Mr. Cooper?"

"Faster! Drive faster!" Matthew yelled, panicking.

At the alley entrance, Adeline withdrew her gaze, a hint of malice in her eyes.

The onlookers were still watching.

Summer seemed a bit out of it.

Adeline picked up the basket of veggies from the ground, smiling. "Grandma, let's head back. My friends are waiting."

Summer snapped out of her daze. "I'll go back right away. Look at me, all absent-minded."

The crowd hadn't dispersed. Adeline supported Summer and greeted them naturally, "Anna, you buying a pumpkin too?"

"Yeah," Anna Perez said, a bit embarrassed. "Adeline, you should hurry and take Summer back. She seems preoccupied."

Adeline responded with a "Sure" and smiled again.

Seeing her like this, the gossipers didn't say anything more. After all, they were all neighbors.

Vanessa even helped her pick up the veggies. "Adeline, don't take it to heart. Anna and the others mean no harm."

"I know." Adeline's voice was calm.

She knew exactly who to settle scores with.

Vanessa sighed in relief, still a bit nervous. The others were avoiding the pharmacy.

Summer had lived there for so long, and it was the first time they heard she had caused someone's death.

How could that not be scary? The pharmacy had become quite deserted after this drama.

Xavier, who had come along, had a complicated expression. Until Adeline sent Summer into the inner courtyard, he couldn't hold back any longer and asked, "Is your grandmother named Summer?"

Adeline closed the door, her expression cold. "Why? Heard of her?"

"I..." Xavier hesitated under Adeline's strong presence. "The elders in my family mentioned some rumors."

Adeline laughed, her eyes cold. "What rumors? I haven't heard them. Spill."

Xavier was startled. "Rumors are best left unheard. They're not reliable!"

"What if I insist?" Adeline tapped the wooden stick in her hand, speaking slowly.

Xavier immediately straightened up. "Well, the thing is, back then, there weren't four but five prominent medical families in Eldoria. The most outstanding among them was actually your grandmother, Summer."
