Chapter 88 Refusal to Treat

Adeline didn't catch what was happening, her long lashes hiding her eyes.

Charles glanced away, his voice even rougher. "So, how are you planning to open the clinic?"

"It's still in the works." Adeline chuckled, lifting her head, her mole standing out. "Grandma wanted everyone to afford medical care, so the kind of fame from yesterday isn't what we're aiming for."

Charles just hummed, thinking about telling Patrick to help Adeline with medical resources.

But it seemed like she had her own plans and probably didn't want him meddling too much.

Adeline liked how Charles knew when to back off. She raised her teacup to clink with his. "You can focus more on me then."

Patrick thought, 'Isn't Charles already paying you enough attention? He practically lives here!'

But he kept that to himself.

Even the Maybach outside, Charles wouldn't let them drive it in, showing how much he valued his relationship with Adeline.

Charles put down his teacup and got to the point. "I heard you're not planning to treat the Livingston family's son?"

Adeline raised an eyebrow, leaning in. "Where'd you hear that? I thought only I knew."

She had turned down the Livingston family over the phone this morning, half-awake.

How did he know?

Charles made a circle with his hand, coughing lightly. "There are always ways to find out."

Adeline thought for a moment. "After all, you're from the Vanderbilt Family of Zelphoria."

Charles asked, "Why don't you want to treat him?"

Patrick was curious too!

Originally, Nicholas had picked Adeline to go back to Zelphoria with them for treatment. Charles, in a rare good mood, had finished all his work early despite not sleeping all night, just to make time to personally welcome Adeline. He even had the kitchen prepare special dishes.

But by noon, news came from the manor that the Lumina Vitae Foundation had turned down the Livingston family's offer!

At that moment, Charles's eyes darkened.

His coughing got worse, but he didn't show it. He attended international meetings and finalized the trip to Albion.

After the meeting, Patrick couldn't hold back and suggested, "Why don't we go see Adeline? You haven't visited in a while; she might be thinking of you."

So, they came to Chrysanthemum Alley.

Patrick wanted to ask right away, but Charles was too composed, as if whether Adeline treated the patient or not didn't matter to him.

Adeline looked at the handsome face close to hers. "Are you very close to him?"

Charles paused, his fingertips still. "Not particularly."

Adeline slowly propped her chin. "Then I'll be blunt. There are plenty of people who can treat him; the Taylor Family is quite good."

Charles's gaze fell on the flowers at the corner of the table. His face a bit pale, but it didn't affect his demeanor. "But I heard the Taylor Family already diagnosed him and can't treat him."

Adeline smiled faintly. "He can go abroad. With the Livingston family's wealth, there should be plenty of renowned doctors abroad lining up to treat him."

Patrick, hearing this, almost wanted to explode.

What's her problem? Wasn't saving lives the primary duty of a doctor?

Charles, however, looked into her eyes, his voice tinged with amusement. "Do you have a grudge against the Livingston family?"
