Chapter 279 The Sweet Interaction
Adeline raised an eyebrow upon hearing this. "I already told you, the words of a fortune teller...."
Charles covered her mouth again from behind, holding her entirely in his arms. His laughter was low and deep in her ear. "We'll talk in private."
Adeline's eyes narrowed, making the tear mole at the corner of her eye even more prominent.
Charles's thin lips brushed against her hair, dignified yet polite. "I'll come to you later, and you can bite me then. I'll speak well of you in front of your Grandma. She must be worried and angry that you took such a risk coming out this time. I'll go back with you and help smooth things over."
His voice was very low, almost coaxing.
Adeline thought for a moment and nodded.
She didn't even notice how close and intimate they were.
Alexander, on the other hand, widened his eyes, glaring angrily at Charles.
Charles laughed, looking at Alexander. "Mr. Vanderbilt, you probably won't break us apart."
Alexander, leaning on his cane, furrowed his graying brows. How had he never realized how shameless this Charles from the Livingston family was?
"Your matters can be discussed later. If Savannah is willing, I won't stop her," Alexander said, not confused at all.
It was clear that Charles was setting a trap.
Their Savannah was so innocent; he couldn't let her be deceived.
Adeline didn't care about their open and covert struggles; she was more concerned with other matters. After checking Alexander's health, she looked up at Terry. "Terry, are you sure no one has altered Grandpa's prescription?"
"No one, I personally handled all the medicine," Terry said, puzzled, but knowing that if Savannah asked, she must have her reasons. "Is there something wrong with Mr. Vanderbilt's health?"
Adeline nodded. "His lung heat has worsened. The prescription shouldn't have caused this. You and Grandpa should come back to Eldoria with me. I'll write a new prescription. This time, Terry, please pay extra attention, and also be mindful of Grandpa's diet after taking the medicine."
"Alright, Ms. Vanderbilt, you are always so considerate," Terry said, appreciating working under someone so straightforward and respectful to worker bees like them.
Alexander was in a good mood today, eating Mexican food while exchanging glances with Charles.
He was trying to provoke Charles, hoping Savannah would see through Charles's schemes.
But Charles remained composed, taking good care of him.
He even reassured him. "Lorenzo is fine, don't worry."
"I'll have a drink with you," Charles said, knowing how to speak. "You've finally found Savannah. With her being so good, you'll enjoy the rest of your life."
Alexander snorted and downed a drink. "You don't need to tell me how good our Savannah is!"
Adeline didn't understand what was happening, so she went with Terry to check the prescription.
When she returned to the dining table, they had already started drinking.
Charles didn't drink, substituting tea for wine.
Terry was taken aback and smiled wryly. "Ms. Vanderbilt, Mr. Vanderbilt gets drunk after just one drink."
Sure enough, after drinking, Alexander cried again, this time out of relief. He held Adeline's hand, his drunkenness mingling with guilt. "Savannah, your parents were confused, but I'm not. I'll never be confused. I'll give you everything I can."
From Alexander's words, Adeline could glean some information.
The first time she treated Alexander, she knew about his love for her.
This made Adeline feel very unfamiliar; this kind of affection was something Summer had given her.
Now there was also Alexander, and Lorenzo lying in the hospital bed.
She didn't necessarily have to return to the Vanderbilt Family, but Adeline certainly would appreciate such sincere goodwill.
Especially since Alexander had come in the rain, almost causing a relapse of pneumonia.
Adeline wouldn't speak harshly to him, even if she still had questions.
