Chapter 42 Starting the Massage
"Xavier." Adeline's voice dragged out, slow and easy.
Xavier snapped to attention. "Right here."
"You know how to boil water and spot herbs?" Adeline nodded at the medicine cabinet.
Xavier nodded back. "Yeah, kinda slow at it though."
"Get the herbs ready." Adeline shot him a sideways glance. "If someone needs a massage, come get me."
Xavier thought, 'Seriously? She's making me, a top surgeon, play receptionist?'
Adeline smirked. "You're not willing to?"
Xavier rolled up his sleeves. "Yes, it's cool."
He was here to secretly learn some medical tricks; playing receptionist was no biggie!
Adeline then led Charles into the back room. In the middle was a soft couch, and the air was thick with incense.
Something was hooked up under the couch. On closer look, it was connected to the hearth outside.
"Strip down," Adeline said, opening the medicine box. "And lie down."
Wait, what?
She wanted Charles to strip in a place like this and lie down?
Patrick, lugging a wooden bucket, had a look of pure confusion!
Since he was four, Charles hadn't let anyone touch him. He did everything himself, and the servants at home kept their distance. Even abroad, Charles stayed in his own estate.
Now, she was asking Charles to strip and lie down in a pharmacy?
Patrick couldn't help but think, 'If she screws this up, she's toast.'
Adeline stayed cool, mixing her medicine.
Standing by the couch, Charles raised an eyebrow, eyes darkening. "You sure you want me to strip here?"
Adeline adjusted the temperature, smiling. "This is the best spot for your treatment. The gauze on the couch is sterilized; it's clean."
Charles didn't budge, just stared her down.
"No need to be shy." Adeline dipped her hands into the medicine, looking serious. "No one's coming in."
Patrick thought, 'Did you forget you're a woman? Charles won't strip!'
But then Charles chuckled and started unbuttoning his coat.
Patrick was floored.
Adeline glanced back at him. "Take off your whole upper body."
Charles's fingers paused for a sec, but he kept going. When he got to the second button, he glanced sideways.
Patrick felt a chill and bolted!
Once the room was empty, Charles lay on the couch, shirtless.
His black pants and smooth V-line abs looked lean but strong in the dim light. His messy hair fell over his forehead, making him look dangerous. No one would think he was a long-term patient.
In this state, he looked more like someone who held the power of life and death.
Adeline smiled faintly, her fingertips brushing his abdomen.
Charles's eyes narrowed slightly.
"Relax." Adeline's voice was all business. "I'm gonna massage you."
With that, she placed her hand on Charles's abdomen, using his navel as the center, and gently massaged in a clockwise direction.
The room was super quiet, with only the sound of water droplets hitting the wooden bucket.
