Chapter 87 Ambiguous Words

When Patrick heard the invite, he shot a quick glance over.

Charles stayed cool. "Kinda."

Adeline's eyebrows arched perfectly. "You trying to do a good deed on the down-low?"

Charles cleared his throat, still sounding a bit hoarse. "I'm not in the best shape. Giving me the invite would be a waste. I can't go, so might as well hand it to a doctor like you."

Adeline raised an eyebrow. "Ever thought about taking a chance? The Livingston family’s got a bunch of top-notch doctors coming; maybe one of them can fix you up."

Charles looked down, his long lashes casting a shadow. "I did think about it. But after meeting you, I don't see the point."

Everyone was stunned by his words.

Patrick dropped the wooden bucket he was holding.

Adeline's hand, mid-pour with the tea, paused.

Robert, still training nearby, snapped to attention, his round eyes locked on Charles!

Charles realized his words were a bit too suggestive and frowned. "I meant your medical skills."

"I know." Adeline smiled casually. "You sit tight. I'll grab something from inside."

Charles nodded and picked up the tea from the stone table.

Patrick noticed something odd about this clinic. Once Charles stepped into the courtyard, he stopped being so picky. He didn't care if the tea was good or not, and his usual OCD seemed to vanish!

Inside, Summer was still on the phone.

"Don't worry. Adeline's got a good temper and is easy to teach. She won't take up too much of your time."

"What did you say? You're scared of her?"

"Oliver, don't lie just to get out of teaching her."

On the other end, Oliver defended himself, "I'm not lying; you don't know how..."

A cool voice cut in, "Grandma, if Oliver really doesn't want to, then forget it. We can't force him."

Oliver quickly said, "Don't worry. What you asked isn't hard; I'll do it!"

Only then did Summer hang up, satisfied.

Adeline packed the ganoderma she picked from the mountain yesterday into a box, along with a medicine pouch.

She moved fast, and by the time she came back out, Charles hadn't even finished a pot of tea.

"Here you go." Adeline placed the box on his lap. "Add it to your daily soup as directed. I also wrote down some dietary restrictions on a piece of paper."

Charles looked up at her.

One was sitting, the other standing. Both were striking, with an indescribable beauty.

Adeline pressed her left hand on the medicine pouch. "When you get home, put this by your bedside. It'll help calm your mind and aid sleep."

Charles's fingertips brushed over it. "Did you make this yourself too?"

"Yeah, it's a thank-you gift." Adeline smiled freely, leaning forward in her white T-shirt, her collarbone just visible.

Charles unconsciously twirled the tea cup with his fingers, trying to suppress an inexplicable itch in his throat.
