Chapter 14 The Rogue Relative
Anyway, she'd got cash and could totally support her real parents.
Daniel's jaw hit the floor. "Real parents?"
In that crowd, there was this old dude surrounded by a bunch of good-looking young guys, looking all important. Was that Adeline's family?
Daniel thought they were here for some medical stuff. Lucky for him, he’d always been nice and hadn’t pissed off Adeline’s family. Still, he kinda wished he’d been a bit more respectful.
Adeline didn’t make a big deal out of it and just sent a message turning down the consultation. Lately, a lot of folks had been coming around asking for her medical help, even from the next town over. No wonder Daniel thought that, especially since her real parents were in Ravenwood Town.
"Daniel, let's head back. We shouldn’t keep Louis and the others waiting," Adeline said.
"Cool," Daniel nodded with a grin.
Neither said much, leading to a funny little misunderstanding.
"Adeline, you're finally back!" Jenna Thomas, the fruit seller at the community entrance, was the first to greet her when she parked.
Jenna continued, "Did Daniel tell you? There’s a bunch of sketchy folks looking for you."
Adeline shrugged it off and checked Jenna’s health, smiling. "So Daniel came all the way here on his electric bike for this."
Jenna gave Daniel a thumbs-up.
Daniel, not used to Jenna’s praise, looked at Adeline gratefully. "Ms. Thomas is right. It’s what I should do. If you need anything, just holler."
Adeline nodded. "I’ll hold you to that."
Neighbors helping each other out just made their bond stronger.
If Adeline had been too formal, Daniel might’ve only helped her out in front of Jenna. But Adeline was chill, liked helping others, and even praised him in front of Jenna.
From the start, Daniel saw Adeline’s potential, and now he admired her even more.
Which young person these days was as capable as Adeline?
That guy at the hotel earlier didn’t even see Adeline’s worth; he was totally clueless!
Henry, on the phone at Caesar Hotel, sneezed and frowned. "What did you say? Folks from Ravenwood Town are here?"
"Yeah, Mr. Martinez. They specifically want to see Adeline and find out where she is," said Benjamin, who had driven Adeline away on the first day.
Henry thought of Daniel’s electric bike and got annoyed. "Looks like they turned down the money ‘cause they thought it was too little and now want to latch onto our Martinez Family!"
"They family is so shameless!" Benjamin sneered. "I’ll handle them. I know how to deal with these leeches!"
Henry thought for a sec. "Don’t make it too messy. The Martinez family’s rep is on the line."
Benjamin nodded. "Don’t worry; I got this."
After hanging up, Henry went back to toasting. They were about to marry into the Cooper family, and with their rep in the medical field, his future was looking bright.
At this crucial moment, he didn’t have time to deal with Adeline’s broke relatives. It was just ridiculous!
And this day would turn out to be the one he’d regret the most in his life!
