Chapter 66 Survival Instinct

Stella bit her lip and shook her head. "Don't go blaming Adeline. The Martinez Family's sudden changes were just too much for her to handle."

That sounded innocent enough, but it was really throwing Adeline under the bus.

Harold frowned. "Stella, speak up. We're here; don't be scared. She can't push you around!"

"She didn't!" Stella stretched her neck and looked down weakly. "She just got the wrong idea. Ms. Cooper took me in, and to show his thanks, Dad gave Whispering Fern to the Cooper family, and then..."

Harold sneered. "And then she started causing trouble here!"

"Harold, chill out," Sara said, trying to be the bigger person. "It's cool, as long as we clear up the misunderstandings. Otherwise, people might think the Cooper family's Whispering Fern was shady."

Adeline watched this lame drama and slowly smiled. "Does the Cooper family have anything they got fair and square?"

"You're just being stubborn!" Matthew's eyes flared with anger. "If you're so tough, bring out a Whispering Fern yourself!"

Adeline could grow one if she wanted, but there was no point in showing off here.

She curled her lips, her eyes deep. She walked over to Sara. "My grandmother had a son who tried to steal Whispering Fern for others. She let it slide. But I want to ask the Cooper family on behalf of the patients, do you sleep well at night?"

"What do you mean?" Matthew rushed forward to hit Adeline!

He was stopped by a Livingston family bodyguard. "No violence allowed at the Livingston place."

Nicholas stood in the center, silent, his eyes heavy.

Sara knew they couldn't keep bickering over these petty issues. If they ticked off the Livingston family, no one would come out on top.

"Mr. Nicholas Livingston, I swear on the Cooper family's century-old reputation that this Whispering Fern is legit." Sara shamelessly held Stella's hand. "This is a gift from me and my student Stella to the Livingston family, for treating Mr. Charles Livingston."

Hearing this, everyone more or less got the picture.

That Whispering Fern originally belonged to Summer. The Cooper family must have found a way to get Henry to swipe it and claim it as their own.

But this was a Martinez Family issue. As long as Summer didn't speak up, what could be done even if the Cooper family took it?

After all, Stella, the granddaughter, came willingly.

Adeline had no reason to stand up for Summer.

That was the reaction of most people.

But some didn't agree.

Like Oliver and Oscar, who were fuming. "Sara makes it sound nice, but it's straight-up theft!"

Oliver immediately got what Adeline was doing. "No wonder you're so tough today. It's all for Summer."

Not entirely. Adeline didn't say anything, just glanced at the time on her phone.

Oscar shook his head. "But Whispering Fern is so rare. Even if the Livingston family knew the backstory, they probably wouldn't turn down Sara."

Indeed, who could refuse a miracle cure? Especially for someone on the brink of death. The instinct to survive was natural.

That's why Sara stood here today, unafraid of anything!

After placing the wooden box down, she walked over to Adeline and whispered, "Take a good look. Our Cooper family is powerful. What do you have to fight us with?"
