Chapter 56 Losing Face
Sara let out a cold laugh. "How could she get a invite herself? It's me having someone to drop it off."
"You?" Stella looked confused.
Sara, rubbing her temples, said, "The Cooper fam's got three invites. I meant to send a fake one, but looks like Matthew messed up and sent a legit one."
"Adeline lucked out!" Angela was green with envy. "Ms. Cooper, you should've given it to me."
Sara was losing her cool. "I can sneak you in; same difference!"
With that, she strutted up to the bodyguard and handed over the invite with a smug look.
The bodyguard checked it and stepped aside, letting them through.
Sara felt a bit of her pride return.
But that didn't last long.
Angela started yelling behind her. "Ms. Cooper, Ms. Cooper! They won't let me in!"
Sara spun around, glaring at the bodyguard blocking the way. "What's the deal?"
"The invite says each doc can only bring one assistant," the bodyguard said, all calm. "You gotta pick one."
Sara was about to lose it. "Pick one? How am I supposed to do that?"
Stella, trying to be nice, said, "Ms. Cooper, please take my mom in. I'll wait outside."
"I..." Angela's face turned red. She really wanted to go in. She hesitated, then said, "Stella, don't be silly. You need to go in so Mr. Livingston can notice you and then like you."
The bodyguards, with their sharp ears, exchanged looks.
What was she talking about?
Who did Charles like?
The bodyguards were just as confused!
Sara didn't want to make a scene. "Hurry up, whoever's coming; let's go."
What a hassle! If it weren't for Whispering Fern, she wouldn't have brought them.
"Then, Mom. I'm going." Stella bit her lip, looking all sad.
Angela reluctantly waved her off. "Go on."
Even after they were out of sight, Angela kept looking longingly.
People arriving later, thinking she was in the way, gave her annoyed looks. "If you don't have an invite, move aside."
Angela felt humiliated for the first time and stepped aside.
This reminded her of the messed-up invite Sara had given, making her resent Adeline even more. How did Adeline end up benefiting?
Inside the manor's hall, people were mingling. One wall was decked out with roses, and the tea sets were top-notch.
Every time a famous doc walked in, the butler would announce their background.
When Adeline walked in, the butler announced she was from the "Lumina Vitae Foundation," which got the other docs' attention.
Their looks were subtle, not as obvious as outside, but the rejection was clear.
No one approached her.
Unlike Sara, who, when she walked in, half the room turned to greet her. "Ms. Cooper is here."
"Hello, everyone," Sara responded gracefully, smiling elegantly.
This was her stage; what happened outside didn't matter!
Sara, with Stella, walked proudly forward, passing by Adeline like she didn't even see her.
Adeline was clearly not welcomed by other docs, who deliberately ignored her.
Adeline didn't care. She just bit her candy and smiled slightly, casually finding a spot to sit down.
Suddenly, a hurried voice came from beside her! "You are the person I'm looking for!"
