Chapter 64 Medical Reasoning

"The Lumina Vitae Foundation!" After announcing that, Tessa shot Adeline a look, her eyes practically grinning.

The second that result dropped, the whole hall went dead quiet.

Everyone was staring, totally floored. "The Lumina Vitae Foundation? First place? No way!"

Elijah's face twisted, and Sara snatched the slip of paper. Indeed, it really said Lumina Vitae Foundation!

Stella's smile disappeared. How could this be? Was Adeline actually good at medicine?

In a flash, all eyes were glued to Adeline, Oliver, and Oscar.

Oscar, the guy everyone thought was a medical flop, was suddenly the center of attention. He even stopped mid-yawn.

Oliver was in shock. They were first?

Only Adeline stayed cool, her gaze steady.

Sara couldn't stand losing to Adeline in front of everyone. She gripped the slip of paper and took a deep breath. "As medical pros, we shouldn't doubt our employers, but seriously, what kind of criteria put these three in first place?"

As the Cooper family chimed in, others found the guts to question too. "Yeah, how did they snag first?"

"Oscar always bombs tests, and Oliver's no better. How'd they pull this off?"

Tessa raised an eyebrow. "Seems like y'all aren't buying the Livingston family's decision?"

"Ms. Livingston, we trust the Livingston family," Elijah said, eyeing Adeline. "But even the best systems can be gamed. Why not share your medical reasoning so everyone can see who really deserves first place?"

"Exactly!" Matthew shouted the loudest.

Peter, though, wasn't having it. "Elijah, don't be a sore loser."

"How are we sore losers?" Elijah tapped the Lumina Vitae Foundation's prescription. "Does telling someone to drink more water count as treatment?"

The room exploded in chatter again.

Elijah didn't ask anyone else but turned to Oscar. "Oscar, explain your prescription."

Oscar opened his mouth. "It... "

Elijah sneered, "See, he doesn't know anything."

Adeline cut in, "He really doesn't know because I wrote the prescription, and Oliver made the diagnosis."

Oliver was stunned, thinking, 'What?'

"You..." Oliver was about to lose it.

Adeline pressed him back down, smiling faintly. "As our team leader, Oliver is experienced and skilled. It took him less than two minutes to realize the third patient was faking it."

Faking it?

Everyone's eyes popped wide!

Someone shouted, "No way! His temp was high, and his tongue looked off!"

"There are tons of ways to fake a fever, like having a cup of hot water nearby and sticking the thermometer in it," Adeline said calmly. "Right, Oliver?"

Oliver pointed to himself. 'Me?'

Adeline nodded at him.

Oliver, still dazed, said, "Right."

Adeline went on, "The patient was trying to hide his identity, so he nailed the details. If it weren't for Oliver's heads-up, I wouldn't have caught it."

Oscar turned to look at Oliver. 'You reminded her?'

Oliver was speechless. 'What did I remind her of? You were there too!'

Oscar nodded. 'It's true; she was the one treating the patient.'

The silent exchange between Oscar and Oliver didn't faze Adeline. "The Lumina Vitae Foundation snagged first place thanks to Oliver's guts and attention to detail."

Oliver opened his mouth. "I..."

Just then, the curtain of the consultation room was yanked open, and Nicholas, leaning on a cane, walked out with a booming voice. "You guys are something else!"
