Chapter 126 Cutting Ties
Henry saw his mom being so stubborn and got pissed. "Mom! You've already caused a death before, and it took a ton of effort to clean that mess up. It's been twenty years without any drama, and now you wanna draw attention to yourself and drag the Martinez Family down with you?"
Summer raised her cane, ready to strike!
Henry handed her a card. "Mom, you're not young anymore; don't be so headstrong. I know you don't like Angela, but she's my wife. You gotta understand me, right?"
Summer gritted her teeth, her hand clenched painfully. "I'd rather not have a son like you."
"Mom, please don't say things in anger." Henry supported her. "I heard that the Livingston family returned Whispering Fern. Mom, listen to me, my company is really struggling right now. Can you give it to me?"
Summer's chest was heaving. "So that's why you came."
"Mom, you don't wanna see the Martinez Family's business collapse, do you? That was Dad's hard work." Henry sighed, lowering his head. "I'm really out of options. I can't just let the company go bankrupt."
Summer looked at Henry, whom she once loved the most, and felt a pang in her heart.
She didn't want the Martinez Family's business to be ruined, and he knew that reminding her of these things would make her relent.
So over the years, every time he mentioned that, she would give in a little.
Until she retreated to this small courtyard, and she had no more value to him, he finally stopped.
He didn't even show up.
"Then let it collapse." Summer's voice was calm. "You are its owner now."
Henry paused, his eyes widening in disbelief. "Mom, what did you say?"
Summer looked at him. "Son, this is the last time I'll call you that. I carried you for ten months and raised you with my husband, not to see you become heartless. From today on, we are officially no longer mother and son and I won't be concerned with what you do."
Henry was stunned for a moment, then burst into laughter. "You really are crazy! I came to give you money, and you want to cut ties with me? Angela was right; you're unbelievably stubborn!"
With that, he didn't even take the gift box and walked away!
On the way, he ran into Adeline and Robert riding their bikes.
Normally, Henry would have made some snide remarks, but today he wasn't in the mood!
Robert squinted his eyes and made a gesture.
Adeline's eyes were calm. "If you beat him to death, Grandma will be the one who gets hurt."
Robert pouted and turned his head away in a huff.
They carried their groceries into the clinic, where there were still a few bags of gifts on the floor.
Summer was busy as usual, having just finished seeing a patient and needing to change the bed sheets.
Robert tilted his head and gestured, "Summer looks like she's fine."
Adeline nodded and walked over to Summer.
Without turning around, Summer said, "Adeline, from now on, I don't have a son anymore, and that's just fine."
Adeline stopped in her tracks and hugged her shoulders. "You still have me and Robert. Isn't Robert enough to keep you busy? Today, when we went to buy groceries, he scared all the fish at the market to death. The owner made us pay for them."
Upon hearing this, Summer couldn't stay sad any longer. She turned around, raising her eyebrows. "Robert, what on earth did you do?"
Robert held the fish, looking innocent.
