Chapter 234 Tricked into Returning Home
Leroy, with a cigarette in his mouth, was playing cards on his phone. "Alright, at least Stella didn't lie to us. She really is stunning."
"No matter what, let's make sure nothing goes wrong on the road tomorrow." Jessica frowned. "Stella didn't tell us she's so sharp. Look at the questions she asked me!"
They had been human traffickers for many years.
Especially Jessica, who was a master of acting. Unless it was an experienced detective, it was hard for ordinary people to see through her.
Leroy was much less skilled, so he spoke little and handled the transportation. "Don't worry. We're taking the old route tomorrow. We're just going to claim our daughter. It's perfectly legitimate; no one will check."
Jessica was frustrated. "It's all because of that family. They keep an eye on us and have cost us so much business. With so many kids back then, who knows which one was theirs?"
"Keep your voice down." Leroy pulled her aside. "It's thanks to the mayor that this hasn't been exposed. Don't talk about it anymore. Let's avoid them when we get back."
They whispered to each other until midnight.
Early the next morning, Leroy and Jessica arrived, bringing a bunch of food, looking as honest as anyone could be.
Inside, Adeline wrote a note to Robert.
Robert nodded after reading it.
Leroy and Jessica were still waiting outside the yard.
Adeline didn't bring much, just a black bag in one hand.
She wore a baseball cap that covered her waist-length hair.
Dressed in a black T-shirt and black pants, with the string of purple gemstone pendants on her fair wrist.
This outfit made her face look both beautiful and alluring.
Jessica nudged Leroy after seeing her.
Leroy quickly stepped forward to take Adeline's bag.
"I can carry it myself." Adeline smiled faintly.
They were cautious and didn't insist.
Summer was reluctant to let Adeline go, even if it was just for a few days, and kept reminding her to be careful.
Ravenwood Town had no train service.
To get back, they had to take a bus.
The terrain was surrounded by mountains, and near the border.
At the bus terminal, Jessica held the tickets. "Leroy was worried you wouldn't be comfortable on the bus, so he called for a van."
Adeline raised an eyebrow.
Over there, Leroy was already sitting in the van, waving at them. "Over here!"
The van looked shabby on the outside, but it was spacious inside. The back row was folded down to store things.
Besides the driver, it was just the three of them.
Leroy was negotiating the price with the driver. It wasn't cheap for this trip, a full five hours of mountain roads, costing eight hundred dollars, with delivery to the village.
Jessica smiled sheepishly. "I didn't want you to be inconvenienced. This way, it's easier to use the restroom."
Adeline indeed couldn't handle the big bus.
Being a medical student, she was sensitive to smells.
If she had to endure that for the whole trip, she would be disoriented.
Adeline didn't hesitate and got into the van with her black bag.
Leroy and Jessica exchanged a glance, thinking they had it in the bag.
Especially when the van successfully left the city and got on the highway.
Leroy and Jessica's smiles grew wider.
Jessica looked at Adeline beside her and handed her a bottle of mineral water. "Adeline, it's a long trip. Have some water."
"No, thanks." Adeline withdrew her gaze from the window and suddenly smirked. "I'll take a nap."
Jessica beamed. "I'll wake you when we reach the service station."
"Okay." Adeline closed her eyes, looking from the side like an innocent girl.
Jessica exchanged a contemptuous glance with Leroy, who was sitting in the front.
In the end, she was just an inexperienced person. She might look tough, but she was still easily deceived.
Students were just naive.
Leroy and Jessica had experience with this sort of thing.
