Chapter 152 His Heartbeat

The tea had been sitting too long, leaving a bitter taste that stuck around in the back of the throat.

Charles's face didn't give anything away, but his eyes were deep, and he was being extra polite. "My family's not that complicated, and no one can tell me what to do. The person I choose won't be mistreated."

"With you saying that, I feel better." Summer finally let out a sigh of relief. She knew they were hiding something, but as long as the big picture was okay, she could deal with it.

Charles was still being all gentlemanly, he poured Summer another cup of tea. His eyes drifted through the window to the busy girl inside the house.

She was in black pants and a white T-shirt, nothing fancy, but it didn't hide her great figure.

She was definitely attractive, really eye-catching.

Noticing his stare, she looked over too. Her lips were red, giving off a casual yet pure and seductive vibe.

Charles studied her neck, squinting a bit. His thumb rubbed the bracelet on his wrist, his eyes darkening.

Then he asked, "Can you tell me about Harold? It'd help me console her after I hear about it."

"He's no good." Summer looked at the tree nearby. "I blame my poor judgment. I thought the Mitchell Family was reliable back then, and since Adeline liked him, I set up the engagement. They wanted this marriage. Over the years, as my abilities waned and they saw no benefit, they began to look down on Adeline's background. Then they broke off the engagement, making Adeline a laughingstock in Eldoria."

Charles listened quietly, not saying a word.

In his mind, Adeline seemed like she didn't care about anything.

Logically, at her age, she should be full of youthful emotions. How could she truly not care about anything?

Thinking about this, Charles tightened his grip on the teacup, his eyes flickering, making it hard to read his thoughts.

Inside the house, Adeline had no idea what they were talking about or how they could talk for so long.

He glanced at her again.

Was it a cry for help?

It didn't seem like a cry for help, more like he was handling it smoothly.

It looked like he had calmed Summer down after confessing.

Adeline's lips curled up; Charles was definitely not simple.

Unlike her, she was standing at the front desk, bored, and Matteo looked at her warily, like she was some kind of monster.

Finally, the conversation ended, and Charles walked over first. The coolness around him was even stronger than before, his sharply defined handsome face carrying a hint of coldness, making the surrounding air feel chilly.

Adeline wasn't sure if it was just her imagination.

She always felt that his mood wasn't good.

Did something go wrong in the conversation?

Adeline walked over, her beautiful eyes slightly raised, as if asking, ''how did it go?''

Charles, however, reached out and gently wiped away the medicine powder on her face, the warmth of his fingertips merging with his alluring scent, seeping into her breath.

They were so close that she could even hear his strong and powerful heartbeat.
