Chapter 190 Illegal Enforcement
In the city office hall, many people were waiting.
The secretary transferred from above was no ordinary secretary, especially since his last name was Miller!
Anyone who understood the significance knew what this meant!
Almost everyone from various departments had arrived, waiting for the new leader to hold a meeting.
Even the streets on both sides were exceptionally clean that day.
People waited and waited, almost straining their eyes, but still saw no one.
Deputy Mayor Jack Grant, however, showed no impatience.
Finally, there was a car in sight!
But the car was speeding, not typical of Jesse's style when coming to take office.
Jack was puzzled when the driver got out, looking anxiously at the crowd. "Excuse me, who is Mr. Grant?"
"That's me. Take your time and tell me what's going on." Jack recognized him. "Aren't you the bodyguard who has been with Mr. Miller for years?"
Though called a bodyguard, they were actually people who had come out of the military.
He looked unremarkable, but his walk was steady.
If Jack couldn't recognize him, he would be in real trouble.
The police had missed arresting him earlier because he blended into the crowd so well.
"Where is Mr. Miller?" Jack asked with a smile. "He called last night saying he was going to meet a friend first. Where is he? Did something delay him? His phone is unreachable."
The driver looked grim. "Jack, are there any colleagues from the police system here?"
"Coincidentally, they have something going on today." Jack's smile didn't fade. "What's the matter?"
The driver spoke up in front of everyone, "The police have arrested Mr. Miller."
In an instant, Jack's smile froze, seemingly in disbelief. "What did you say? Who? Arrested who?"
"The police have arrested Mr. Miller." The driver repeated, this time with a heavier tone. "Daniel was also taken in with him. The auxiliary police who made the arrest didn't turn on their body cameras. I'm worried they might use coercion."
With each word the driver said, Jack's heart sank a little more.
The people behind him were even more shocked, each with wide eyes.
The secretary sent from above hadn't even reached the office before being arrested by rogue officers?
This wasn't just an arrest!
This was a catastrophe!
Someone from Zelphoria had an incident on their first day in Eldoria.
He was here to straighten out Eldoria!
Jack felt like he was about to have a heart attack, clutching his chest and breathing erratically. "Get me Victor Hudson! Quickly!"
Victor was in charge of the entire police system, the direct leader of the police department.
Someone of Jack's level wouldn't be recognized by the rank-and-file police officers.
To handle this matter, they needed a specialist.
Moreover, this was Victor's responsibility!
Jesse, Daniel, neither of them had simple identities!
Daniel himself wasn't much, but he had Louis behind him!
Jack now wished he could immediately remove Victor from his position. How was he managing people?
Before they could reach Victor, Jack's private phone rang. He didn't want to answer, but the caller ID made him break out in a cold sweat.
"Louis, yes, I'm here."
Jack had never seen Louis so angry.
"If that young girl arrested by the police has even a scratch, Jack, you can forget about being the deputy mayor!"
Jack wiped his sweat. "Louis, the young girl you're talking about is?"
"Jack, I'm retired." Louis's voice was full of pressure, yet he spoke slowly, as if negotiating. "But my honors still stand. If you don't follow the law, it doesn't matter. I can always come back and have someone deal with you."
Jack's hand trembled. "Louis, don't say that. Once I see Victor, I'll tie him up and make him apologize!"
These reckless fools!
They were going to get him killed!
How could they be so bold?
