Chapter 13 Stopping the Wrong Person

‘No way. Adeline? Seriously? How could someone with more medical creds than her come from some tiny town? I heard she was a troublemaker since she was a kid.’ Sara denied herself inwardly.

Sara, catching on to what just went down, felt a wave of anger. Adeline had the nerve to humiliate her student! Her face twisted, and her eyes got all fierce.

Adeline had just crossed the street on a shared bike and hadn't even left the Caesar Hotel area when she bumped into Henry and his family again. She was so annoyed.

Seeing no one else around, Henry let loose. "From now on, let's act like we never raised you and stay out of each other's lives!" Adeline just ignored him; she was so over it.

Right then, Daniel rolled up on an electric bike, looking for someone, and stopped, frowning. "Why are you talking to Adeline like that?"

Henry glanced at Daniel. "Is this your real dad? He came on an electric bike?"

He couldn't even afford a car. No wonder Adeline looked so plain now.

Henry's disdain was clear.

Daniel, though, was a bit thrown. 'Me? Adeline's real dad?'

Daniel's eyes widened. He wished he could be Adeline's real dad, but did he deserve it?

Henry didn't care about his reaction, sneered, turned around, and left, signaling the security guard to come over. With his status, he wouldn't argue with regular folks; it was beneath him!

The security guard respectfully opened the door for him. After Henry entered the lobby, he turned around, pointed at Adeline and Daniel, and said all high and mighty, "What are you looking at? I told you; this isn't a place for you. Why are you still trying to come in?"

Daniel smiled and flashed his work ID.

The security guard, not the brightest, recognized the badge and immediately got shaky. "I didn't know you were the government leader; I'll just..."

Daniel gave him a side-eye. "Caesar Hotel is a key spot in the city; it should be inspected."

One sentence made the security guard break out in a cold sweat.

Daniel turned to Adeline and said, "Ms. Vanderbilt, hang tight; I'll handle this."

Adeline, chill as ever, made a gesture of invitation.

The security guard's face went pale hearing that title!

Who had he just stopped?

Didn't Angela say Adeline was just some poor relative?

The security guard realized his job was toast and collapsed to the ground, full of regret.

Daniel called the hotel manager, and with a few words, had the security guard taken away.

He wasn't shocked that Adeline would be here. "Ms. Vanderbilt, you came to treat Mr. Livingston, right?"

"I did, but not anymore," Adeline replied casually.

Daniel didn't push for a reason; he just smiled and said, "If you don't, shall we head back? Mr. Anderson and the others are waiting for you at the community square for a consultation. It's hot out, and I'm worried they might get heatstroke."

He lowered his voice. "Ms. Vanderbilt, a bunch of folks from Ravenwood Town showed up at our community, saying they were looking for you. I think they might not recognize you, so I stopped them."

Adeline thought, 'Ravenwood Town? That name rings a bell; it came up when the Martinez Family kicked me out.'

Adeline then smiled. "Thanks, Daniel. If they come again, let them in. Maybe it's my real parents looking for me."
