Chapter 82 Saving a Life
Since they were all about bringing the Lumina Vitae Foundation back to life, they definitely needed some medicine.
Eldoria was located where two provinces met, with its humid weather and thick shrubs. If one could dig up mushrooms, they could probably find other stuff too, like wild ganoderma.
These two were Robert's absolute favorites; he went straight for them as soon as he caught a whiff.
When they came down, they bumped into Kristoffer Volden, a pro at early-morning mushroom picking.
Kristoffer was shocked to see someone out there before him. "It's still dark. How do you have the guts to be out here?"
This was a wild mountain, and there was a sign below that warned not to go up. What were they doing?
Robert was yawning but perked up when he heard someone talking and looked up.
"A mute?" Kristoffer didn't mean any harm and walked closer with his flashlight, asking Adeline, "Are you here to pick mushrooms because your family is short on money?"
Adeline gave a faint smile. "Yeah."
Kristoffer sighed deeply. "This is crazy. Follow me; I'll take you down. There are wolves in these mountains."
Robert straightened up, his eyes gleaming.
Adeline frowned. "Wolves?"
"Yeah." Kristoffer raised his flashlight. "I don't know how they got here. If you want to pick mushrooms in the future, go to the mountain closer to the city center; it's safer there."
'But there's no ganoderma there,' Robert thought.
Adeline replied, "Okay, we get it. Thanks."
"You're welcome. Are you siblings?" Kristoffer asked as they walked. "You look very young. Where are your parents?"
How could any parents let two kids climb a mountain in the middle of the night?
Adeline smiled lightly. "We don't have parents. Just a grandmother at home."
"Then you should head back early," Kristoffer said, feeling more and more sympathetic. "Your grandmother would be worried sick if she knew you were here!"
Adeline signaled Robert to put on his backpack, still smiling. "You're right."
"If your family is really struggling, you could apply for assistance. The policies are better now; you won't suffer. My daughter went to school that way," Kristoffer said as he escorted them to the foot of the mountain. "Alright, it's safe here. Follow that path down, and you'll reach the road. Don't come back next time."
Adeline didn't leave immediately but smiled. "Actually, my family runs a pharmacy. We came here to gather some herbs for my grandmother; her legs aren't good."
"Gathering herbs?" Kristoffer was puzzled. "Then earlier."
Adeline lowered her eyes. "It's late at night, and I was worried we might run into bad people. I overthought it. Sorry."
"You should be cautious." Kristoffer laughed. "It's alright as long as you're safe."
Seeing he didn't mind, Adeline asked, "Have you been feeling chest tightness and shortness of breath lately, and often dizzy?"
"How did you know?" Kristoffer was shocked!
Adeline held Robert's hand. "I learned a bit of medicine from my grandmother. If you insist on picking mushrooms and feel unwell again, stop immediately. It's best to get an ECG tomorrow to check your condition."
