Chapter 261 Adeline Suspects Her Own Origins
Adeline was also thinking about her origins.
She couldn't remember anything.
She didn't have many memories to begin with.
Trying to recall her childhood was like staring into a blank void.
But it couldn't be something so absurd.
Was she really the Vanderbilt Family's Savannah?
Probably not, because she didn't look much like the adopted daughter of the Vanderbilt Family.
In any case, she would wait for Jessica to explain everything clearly.
In the distance, Charles watched the scene, his eyes growing even darker.
Although it wasn't quite appropriate to compare, he did think, if only he had been the one she rescued from the cellar.
Escaping the desolate village together would have made their feelings different.
Perhaps Adeline herself hadn't noticed, but she had an indescribable feeling towards Lorenzo.
Charles stood in the wind, his Adam's apple moving, the coldness around him growing heavier.
Patrick didn't dare approach, only calling out from the side, "Mr. Livingston, we've caught everyone we needed to."
"Here is the things you wanted," Patrick said softly.
Cadence watched everything unfold. Especially when she saw Lorenzo going to find his sister Savannah, she felt a mix of unease and anticipation. "Adeline."
Adeline turned to look at Cadence behind her.
Cadence had been clutching her sleeve since earlier.
Seeing so many people arrive, she whispered in her ear, "After all this is over, can I really go home?"
She was worried that her parents might have forgotten her and started their own lives anew.
She feared that her return would only disrupt them. "Will they despise me for having a child without a father?"
Cadence didn't dare ask anyone else, her insecurity making her cling to Adeline's sleeve.
She even tried to comfort herself, "It's normal if they don't accept me. They must still love me and want me back; it's just that these mountains are too deep."
"They've always loved you." Adeline didn't answer this question. Instead, it was Charles who walked over, holding a piece of paper. "And they've already came to Eldoria. At the train station, everyone there knows about a couple selling waffles while looking for their daughter."
Seeing that piece of paper, Cadence couldn't hold back anymore and burst into tears. "Adeline, these are the clothes I was wearing when I left. My parents have been looking for me all this time! I still have people who care about me!"
"Yes, you have people who care about you." The hostility that had surfaced in Adeline's eyes dissipated significantly at this moment.
She turned her head to look at Charles's face, which was so close, and smiled faintly. "You brought everything, well done."
"Compared to someone risking their life, at most, I'm just showing off my meager skills." Charles's voice was cold, mixed with emotions too complex for her to understand his reaction when he saw the live broadcast.
Charles sighed deeply, took off his coat, and draped it over her shoulders. "Let's make a deal, take me along for such big events in the future."
In the end, he didn't dare to say a harsh word.
He even handed her some medicinal candies. "Take a couple of candies first. I'll finish up here and then take you to rest."
With him handling things, Adeline felt at ease and took Cadence's hand. "You have one too."
"Your boyfriend brought them just for you." After crying, Cadence's personality brightened considerably. "I won't eat them; I want to have the wedding candies when you two get married."
Adeline wanted to explain that he was just her nominal boyfriend, and they had a deal.
But meeting his deep gaze, Adeline inexplicably said, "Okay."
Charles clearly smiled, a faint curve at the corner of his mouth as he turned away.
At this moment, in the car heading to the county hospital, Jessica and the others thought everything was over; they had no idea what awaited them.
