Chapter 144 It's Fake News

"Of course not!" Jessica Franklin stood on the hillside, cautiously glancing around, her voice tinged with vigilance. "Didn't you tell us before you left not to tell anyone about you two?"

Stella squinted. "What if they offered money for information?"

"We took the money," Jessica replied with a sly smile. "But we gave them false information. Besides, someone else paid us to make sure she wouldn't be found."

Stella finally breathed a sigh of relief. "Mom, you did the right thing."

Jessica was the one who had switched the babies back then.

Jessica hadn't heard the word "Mom" in a long time, and her eyes immediately welled up with tears. "Stella, your dad and I have been doing exactly what you said. And didn't you mention that if we admitted to what happened back then, it would be considered human trafficking, and we'd end up in jail? Thank goodness for you."

Stella had gotten the information she wanted and started acting perfunctory. "Mom, we still need to stay vigilant. Once this blows over, I'll bring you and Dad to live in the city."

Jessica's eyes lit up. "Really? And Samuel has to come too! You promised to buy him a house!"

"Of course, it's true," Stella said with a smile. "Just wait and see."

Stella's eyes were cold, but she continued to reassure her, "Don't say anything about my situation. If it comes to the worst, just say that child is your biological daughter."

"Don't worry. I remember everything you taught me," Jessica said in a lowered voice. "But Stella, whose child is she anyway? How did it become such a big deal?"

Stella's eyes turned completely cold. "Don't ask about it. If they really find out, I can't protect you and Dad."

"They won't find out a thing!" Jessica promised. "You know, this village is full of our people."

Stella knew this well and smiled slightly. "Mom, if anything unexpected happens, you must ask me first."

"Don't worry. I will!" Jessica was still thinking about Samuel Vanderbilt. "What about Samuel's house?"

Stella's eyes were deep. "When you come, I'll take you to choose one."

Wait a hundred years for that, Stella thought as she hung up the phone and turned off her cell, finally feeling at ease.

At the the Lumina Vitae Foundation, Angela hadn't even entered the yard before Summer, wielding a cane, chased her out.

The neighbors were all watching and clearly didn't like Angela.

"Get out!" Summer was different from before; she didn't want to talk to them.

Angela, delicate as ever, protested, "My Chanel coat! Mom! Can you stop acting crazy? Is this how you treat your daughter-in-law?"

"You both have bad intentions!" Summer's eyes darkened. "What do you want from me this time?"

Henry wanted to get angry too, but this time he was noticeably patient. "Mom, we just want to talk to Adeline. The neighbors are all watching; it's not a good look. Let's talk inside."

Adeline walked back from outside, wearing black pants and a white T-shirt, with a baseball cap on her head. "What do you want to talk to me about?"
