Chapter 53 Immobilization Medical Technique
Outside the manor, folks were still trickling in, and there was Adeline, sticking out like a sore thumb in her getup.
She rocked a white shirt, jeans, and a burgundy baseball cap, looking more like a college kid than someone who belonged there.
The doorman, a security guard, stepped up to stop her, all polite-like, "Ms.?"
Before Adeline could say a word, a cold laugh cut through the air. "A witch doctor fraud dares to show up here."
It was James, with Sara on his arm, and Stella and Angela trailing behind.
Stella was doing her best to avoid eye contact with Adeline, clearly not wanting anyone to know they were acquainted.
Angela, on the other hand, was giving Adeline the death stare, like she wished she could make her disappear. Adeline was like a bad penny that just kept turning up!
Adeline raised an eyebrow, her tone slow and playful. "Oh, look who it is, all acquaintances."
"Who's your acquaintances?" James sneered. "Do you even know where you are? Think a nobody like you belongs here?"
He'd been itching to take Adeline down a peg, but no one he asked had ever heard of her.
Now that he ran into her here, he was determined to make her look bad!
"Where's security? Get her out of here!" James demanded, full of himself.
Sara pretended to stop him, shaking her head like she disapproved. "James, how can you trouble a girl like that?"
"Ms. Cooper, you don't know what she's like. She's all talk!" James was fuming. "I don't even know what kind of witchcraft she used to make me bedridden for so long!"
Adeline laughed leisurely. "What? Your teacher still doesn't know you were immobilized back then?"
Immobilized?
The onlookers gasped.
They exchanged glances. Was there really a medical technique that could immobilize a person?
"You're just bluffing," James scoffed. "A medical technique that can immobilize someone? If such a technique existed, wouldn't Ms. Cooper know it? Ridiculous!"
Adeline bit into a fruit candy. "So Ms. Cooper doesn't even know a technique to immobilize someone? Seems like this so-called renowned medical skill is just a bunch of hot air."
"What did you say?" James was livid. "Dare you say that again?"
Sara held back her anger. "James, shut up!"
Did he want the whole world to know she couldn't immobilize people?
"But she..." James was indignant.
Sara took a deep breath, giving Adeline a cold, haughty look. "You're Summer's student, so I won't argue with you. But let me give you a piece of advice: a healer should have a benevolent heart. Your arrogance is unbecoming."
The name Summer caused varied reactions among the crowd.
"Was Summer the one who prescribed the wrong medicine and killed someone?"
"When did she start taking students?"
"I have no idea; but why would the Livingston family invite her?"
People stopped in their tracks, turning their attention to Adeline with looks of disdain.
This was exactly the result Sara wanted. She had specifically had Matthew send a "fake invitation" to Summer just to see this scene. Unfortunately, Summer herself didn't come.
But it didn't matter; making Adeline lose face was just as good!
Moreover, this wasn't even the most embarrassing moment for Adeline. When she took out the "invitation," that would be truly humiliating!
Angela caught Sara's look and stepped forward. "Maybe she doesn't even have an invitation and just faked one."
It was obvious. Adeline's hometown was in Ravenwood Town, full of poor relatives. How could the Livingston family possibly invite her?
