Chapter 80 Reopening the Clinic
"Adeline!" Summer's voice rang out from a distance, cutting off whatever Adeline was about to say. She was grinning ear to ear.
"Hey, can you get Robert to bring more water for Vanessa and the others to soak their feet?"
Adeline pulled her hand back and gave a small smile. "Sure thing."
She thought, 'Never mind. We'll deal with Robert later. No rush. As long as we don't use too many herbs, nothing will seem off.'
That evening, the smell of food filled Chrysanthemum Alley.
It was obvious that today was the happiest Summer had been in a while.
She had her reading glasses on and was giving the neighbor a shoulder massage, really putting her heart into it.
Every time a patient said they felt better, she would smile right along with them.
Adeline raised an eyebrow as she watched. After Vanessa and the others left, she helped Summer and said, "Grandma, let's get the Lumina Vitae Foundation up and running properly again."
Summer's face froze. "Adeline, why bring this up now?"
Adeline said casually, "Grandma, I'm heading to college soon. I need some hands-on experience, or no one's gonna take me seriously in the big city."
Robert's eyes went wide, like he couldn't believe that she wouldn't be taken seriously.
Adeline shot him a look. "Robert, scram."
Robert pouted, looking all serious.
Summer thought for a moment and said, "Yeah, we should take it seriously."
"So, I watch how you treat patients. Best way to learn." Adeline pointed at Robert. "Plus, Robert eats a ton. We need more cash to keep him fed."
Robert, munching on a sandwich while working, twitched his ears in agreement!
Summer's mind wandered for a bit, then she asked, "Adeline, did something happen when you visited the Livingston family today?"
Adeline answered, "Yeah. While we were busy, a bunch of people barged in and took away the Cooper family members. It looked serious."
"They arrested people right in front of you?" Summer leaned on her cane. "No warning?"
Adeline smirked. "Nope."
Summer said, "Who could've taken down the Cooper family just like that?"
Robert, with his serious little face, pointed at himself!
Summer laughed. "Robert? What are you getting involved for? How could a kid like you take down the Cooper family? You're just cracking me up."
Robert tilted his head, furrowed his brows, and looked at Adeline. Summer didn't believe him!
Adeline didn't say anything, just flicked his forehead. "Sit back down."
Robert sulked.
Summer was still laughing. "Are you mad? Okay, my bad. It was Robert who did it. Our Robert is a real powerhouse."
Robert widened his eyes. She still didn't believe him!
Summer looked at the wooden box Adeline had brought back. "The Cooper family has been running wild in Eldoria for years, treating human lives like dirt. They finally got what was coming to them."
Robert turned his face away.
Adeline straightened his face, her eyes warning him, but she didn't forget to respond to Summer, "You're right."
Summer couldn't figure out what kind of secret code they were using behind her back, her face showing a mix of helplessness and affection.
"Adeline, in other jobs, you can weigh the pros and cons. But not as a doctor. We deal with patients, and patients come in all forms. A casual diagnosis from us can change someone's whole life."
