Chapter 31 Grandma's House

Nathan just had this gut feeling that if he stuck with Adeline, he'd totally find Savannah.

Nathan said, "Hey, I need a favor."

Adeline said, "Shoot."

Nathan glanced around, then whispered, "Mr. Vanderbilt's here in Eldoria looking for his granddaughter. She went missing years ago and got trafficked here. No one's found a trace of her since. Can you use your medical skills and connections to help me find her?"

Adeline remembered the job offer she turned down before. Her ties with the Vanderbilt Family were kinda intriguing.

Without missing a beat, Adeline nodded, "Sure thing."

Nathan, not wanting to wear her out, suggested, "I'll walk you back; it's pretty dark out."

Adeline didn't argue and kept walking.

At first, Nathan thought she was heading to some fancy neighborhood. After all, she was a miracle doctor. Even if she wasn't loaded, she should at least have a decent place.

But she led him straight into a sketchy alley. Hardly anyone around, dim streetlights, and the road was all jacked up.

There was even some dude peeing on the street.

The deeper they went, the more Nathan's brow furrowed. How could she live here?

Finally, Adeline stopped in front of a witch doctor's clinic.

The place was old, narrow, and had a sign by the door.

The sign read: [Foot massage $10. Full body massage $50]

Clearly, it was a "foot massage parlor"! And who knew if it was even legit!

Nathan stared at Adeline, baffled. "What is this place?"

"It's my grandma's house." Adeline took her bag from Nathan.

Nathan hesitated, then said, "If your family's struggling, you gotta let me help. I've saved up quite a bit over the years..."

Seeing Nathan's worried face, Adeline quickly cut him off, "You've got it all wrong. I have money, seriously."

'If you have money, why live here? I don't buy it.' Nathan took a deep breath. "You don't have to be all polite with me. You're young and carrying such a heavy load for your family, practicing medicine and doing charity work. No wonder you skip classes; you're just trying to make more money for them, right?"

Adeline didn't bother explaining; it was too complicated.

But being cared for like this felt kinda nice. Honestly, the Martinez Family hadn't shown her this much concern in years, and Nathan had done it in just one day.

Adeline, uncharacteristically, smiled a bit goofily.

This only made Nathan more convinced of his theory. She charged just a thousand bucks per visit. Maybe she had a gambling dad, an abused mom, and sick siblings, all depending on her. When would she ever save enough for a decent place?

He had to help her out. "Listen, the Vanderbilt Family and that guy earlier have deep pockets. Your medical fees should be way higher, not just a thousand bucks. Even a million wouldn't be too much!"

Adeline wanted to say it wasn't necessary, but Nathan had already left, looking like he was gonna demand the fees right away.

Adeline smirked and didn't call him back.

It was late. Summer should be asleep by now, and it wasn't the best time to invite anyone in.

Thinking this, Adeline pushed open the door, only to find a total mess!

The medicine counter was trashed, stuff thrown everywhere, baskets stomped on, the wooden footbath tipped over, and books torn up with their covers exposed.
