Chapter 1020
"Maybe, just a little bit," Elizabeth tilted her head. "Do you believe in pure friendship between men and women?"
"Maybe," Alexander answered, though he felt uncertain himself.
Elizabeth pouted, mimicking him, "Maybe?"
Alexander looked down, "Maybe not."
Elizabeth nodded, "Forget about it. My grandma and grandpa have a stable relationship, and that's enough."
Alexander couldn't agree more.
"Your grandpa really treats your grandma well. Didn't I go grocery shopping with them yesterday? Your grandpa is always looking out for your grandma, and your grandma too. When she saw your grandpa about to fall, her eyes were full of worry."
He couldn't help but say, "I hope we can make it to the end too, Elizabeth."
Elizabeth and Alexander's figures gradually disappeared down the alley.
It was rare for them to have such a quiet moment to communicate, so they both cherished it.
In this fast-paced era, open-hearted conversations were hard to come by.
Alexander was outside, video calling with Lily.
"Have you been mistreated at the Percy Family? It's okay, just bear with it. Think about the bad things you did before; isn't the Percy Family's treatment somewhat justified?"
"If they easily handed Elizabeth over to you, that would be the real problem."
Alexander barely said a word; it was mostly Lily talking.
Alexander listened quietly, occasionally nodding.
"Alexander, can you bring Elizabeth home for a meal in a few days?"
Alexander glanced inside through the floor-to-ceiling window. Elizabeth was making ravioli with her family, looking very happy.
He really felt like an outsider, out of place here.
"Grandma, if she's willing, I'll bring her back. If she's not, I won't force her. Elizabeth is quite tired," Alexander said.
Lily naturally understood.
"Okay. Alexander, you should go back inside; it's so cold out there. Are you not coming back tonight?"
Alexander immediately said, "I still have to go back tonight. It's inconvenient for me to stay here. Besides, Elizabeth's grandma wouldn't agree to it."
Lily quickly nodded, "Alright, I'll wait for you to come back."
Alexander nodded.
The video call ended.
Suddenly, fireworks went off overhead.
"Elizabeth, you were so naughty when you were little. We were making ravioli, and you were just causing trouble."
"All the ravioli your grandpa made, you knocked them over in one go. We couldn't hit you, couldn't scold you."
Charles laughed as he reminisced.
"You were spoiled as a child, which is why you have so many ideas now. Very stubborn," Celine pointed at Elizabeth and then shook her head.
Elizabeth naturally understood that Celine was referring to her insistence on marrying Alexander when she grew up.
"It's okay, you're destined to face some hardships as you grow up," Charles said, dropping another ravioli. "Now that you've endured the hardships, our Elizabeth will only have happiness in the future."
"Charles, you're so sweet," Elizabeth smiled, genuinely enjoying his words.
Grant and Celine exchanged glances and laughed.
Alexander walked in, and everyone just glanced at him before continuing their conversation.
Elizabeth noticed Alexander's unease and asked him, "Do you want to try making ravioli?"
"He's a man, and you want him to make ravioli?" Celine interrupted Elizabeth.
