Chapter 1027
Elizabeth bit her lip, her nose tingling with the urge to cry, "Let's just end it."
Alexander's heart skipped a beat. He stared straight at Elizabeth, not even processing for a moment what she was trying to say.
His stomach ached, and his mind was in chaos.
Alexander's Adam's apple bobbed up and down. His lips pressed together, and the confusion in his eyes was evident.
"What?" he asked, his voice dry.
"I said," Elizabeth bit her lip, steeling herself, "let's end it."
Over the years, she had worried her family to no end.
She didn't want her family to worry about her anymore.
Or rather, she was scared.
She didn't want to bet on him anymore.
"Alexander, consider it my loss. I don't have the courage to start over with you again," Elizabeth's voice choked, almost forcing the words out through her sadness.
Alexander instinctively grabbed her hand.
"Elizabeth, you promised me, give me a chance. Why?" His eyes turned red in an instant, his voice hoarse as if he could barely speak.
"No reason. The new year has already begun. I hope you get better and better. Don't come looking for me again." Elizabeth removed Alexander's hand and turned to leave.
He hugged Elizabeth tightly, "No."
His voice pierced her ears.
Elizabeth couldn't feel her legs, unable to move.
Alexander furrowed his brow, holding Elizabeth tightly, afraid that if he let go, she would disappear.
His voice was tinged with tears, "Elizabeth, it's my fault for making you unhappy."
"If you don't want me to come to your house, I won't go anymore. I won't drink, I won't smoke. Just give me one more chance, okay?"
He was wrong.
Hearing this, Elizabeth's tears fell almost instantly.
He hadn't done anything wrong. He tried so hard to please her, to please her family.
But she still had to cruelly remove his hand.
Elizabeth sternly said, "Don't be naive. What's lost is lost."
Alexander stood up, his body swaying from drinking too much. He asked, "Then what does your recent attitude mean?"
"I was just playing with you. What do you think it means? Do you really think I forgave you? Do you think what you did to me deserves my forgiveness?" Elizabeth questioned Alexander, but the sadness in her eyes was impossible to hide.
Alexander shook his head. He knew Elizabeth didn't really mean what she was saying.
He kept trying to grab her arm, and she kept pushing him away.
Tears streaming down his face, Alexander choked out, "Stop saying the opposite of what you mean. You're the worst at lying."
"Is it because your family doesn't approve, so you're giving up?" he asked.
Alexander looked at her with red eyes, his voice breaking as he asked, "Elizabeth, can't you feel that I'm sincere?"
Elizabeth couldn't face him.
She could only furrow her brow and sternly say, "Let go of me."
Alexander shook his head, gripping Elizabeth's arm tightly, letting the tears fall from the corners of his eyes.
Elizabeth's heart trembled.
"Alexander, we're really not right for each other," Elizabeth's voice grew softer.
But this kind of gentleness felt like a knife.
He wished Elizabeth would get angry with him, tell him what she was unhappy about, tell him what kind of person he needed to become for her to give him another chance.
But she was so gentle, it was as if she had truly given up on him.
Was he really not worth another chance?
Was he really that unworthy?
Did his efforts really seem so insignificant?
Could she really not see his sincerity?
"Please, give me one more chance," his eyes were bloodshot, his voice pleading.
This kind of Alexander made Elizabeth's heart tighten.
"Whatever difficulties we face, let's face them together, okay?" he took a step forward, enduring the pain in his body.
Elizabeth wavered.
But thinking of her family, she still pushed him away.
Elizabeth turned around.
Alexander gritted his teeth, his voice hoarse, "Elizabeth, if you walk out that door, it means you really don't want me anymore."
