Chapter 143

Kelly froze. Elizabeth's piercing gaze made her shiver and feel guilty.

Elizabeth smiled faintly, her tone calm and emotionless. "This store suits you. Hope you come often."

Kelly's throat tightened. 'Was she mocking me for fitting in at this low-end store?'

Elizabeth snorted and walked out without looking back.

The rain outside was getting heavier.

Elizabeth looked up, feeling the icy raindrops on her face. The cold wind made her feel clear-headed but annoyed.

She raised her hands to cover her face and rush into the rain when a black umbrella appeared above her head.

Elizabeth turned and looked up. It was Henry, Esme's older brother.

Henry, the 26-year-old heir to the Russell Group, was already a formidable figure in business. Handsome, single, decisive, and unique in his actions. He doted on Esme, treating her like a princess. No one was allowed to bully her.

Henry and Alexander attended the same university and were both outstanding. Elizabeth often saw Henry during college, but after she and Esme had a falling out, she rarely saw him.

"Let's talk," he said.

Elizabeth smiled. "Mr. Russell, if you're here for Esme, we have nothing to talk about."

Henry smiled faintly. Since Elizabeth didn't want to sit down, a few words would suffice.

He watched the raindrops hit the ground and said lightly, "Ms. Percy, instead of holding on to someone who doesn't belong to you, it's better to give up early."

Elizabeth squinted, looking at Henry's face with a hint of stubbornness. "Mr. Russell, why don't you say that to Esme?"

Henry met her gaze, momentarily choked by her words.

Elizabeth sternly retorted, "I fell in love with Alexander first and wanted to marry him first. Now Esme is my husband's mistress, destroying my family. Why should I give up?"

Henry frowned, looking into Elizabeth's eyes, and for a moment, he saw his mother in her.

Elizabeth bore an inexplicable resemblance to his mother when she was young.

Henry thought his idea was absurd.

He turned away, his tone heavier. "Because Alexander doesn't love you, you should step aside."

"Ridiculous." Elizabeth ran into the rain without looking back.

Henry took a step forward, holding the umbrella in the air.

He watched Elizabeth's figure with a complicated expression, feeling strange inside.

Henry's phone rang.

Leon Russell: [Henry, why are you still not home so late? How did the questioning at the police station go? Any leads?]

Henry got into the car with the umbrella and replied: [Dad, it's not our Nancy Russell.]

It took a long time for Leon to reply: [One disappointment after another. I wonder how Nancy is doing. Is she still alive? Is she doing well?]

Henry lowered his eyes, feeling a pang in his heart.

The Russell family had a secret—Esme was not their biological daughter. Years ago, there was an accident, and they mistakenly took Esme.

Over the years, the Russells had been secretly searching for their real daughter!
