Chapter 1103
Elizabeth locked eyes with Alexander, whose gaze was gentle and filled with unmistakable affection.
Coupled with his earlier spontaneous remark, "You look beautiful."
Elizabeth's heart skipped a beat.
She really had a thing for Alexander.
She loved the way he looked at her when she had his full attention, and she found herself studying his every expression, a habit she'd developed since high school.
Alexander came across as distant and had his share of problems. But beneath that, he had this whole range of subtle expressions.
Back in high school, whenever he'd get into a fight and show up with bruises or cuts, he'd look at her with those vulnerable eyes and say, "Elizabeth, think you could patch me up?"
During college, when she'd bring him midnight snacks—really just an excuse to see him and hang out longer—he'd give her that half-smile and ask, "You really think I'm worth all this trouble?"
Elizabeth was in her twenties and in her prime—how could she resist Alexander with his tough exterior but those moments of unexpected tenderness that revealed so much more going on inside?
Elizabeth lowered her head and said softly, "I'm so pathetic. I still really care what you think of me."
"You dork," Alexander's voice was tender and gentle.
Elizabeth smiled, lifting her head with a bit more confidence.
"The tulips I sent you today, how are they? Do you like them?" he asked.
Elizabeth nodded, "I really like them."
"But I was too busy at the time, in the middle of an international meeting, so I had to ask Nolan to deliver them." He felt guilty for not being able to be there in person.
If he had been there in person, the effect might have been different.
After all, people online were saying, how could he not show up at such an important moment for Elizabeth? Were they really back together? Was Alexander serious about Elizabeth?
"Tonight, I want to make our relationship official on social media. What do you think?" he asked Elizabeth.
Elizabeth was mid-sip of her drink.
She heard Alexander's words and was puzzled, "How do you want to announce it?"
"Let's post on Instagram—that's where we have the most followers," he suggested.
Elizabeth thought for a moment, "Alexander, what exactly are we right now?"
"We're back together. You're my girlfriend, and if you're ready, you could be my fiancée," he answered openly and seriously.
Elizabeth smiled, it was the answer she had hoped for.
It was the confirmation she needed.
"So we're officially together," she said.
Alexander nodded, "Okay, then we'll say we're dating, and that you're still taking things slow with me."
"Just say we're dating," Elizabeth interrupted him.
Alexander nodded again.
Whatever Elizabeth said, he would follow.
When the food arrived, Elizabeth quietly started eating.
Alexander, however, kept eating and looking at her.
Elizabeth looked up several times, only to meet his gaze.
Why was he staring at her, making her feel a bit uncomfortable?
Noticing her discomfort, Alexander smiled and said, "You were like this when we were together before."
Elizabeth almost choked on her wine.
What?
Was she like this before?
"Your gaze was more intense," he added.
Elizabeth was puzzled.
Okay, she admitted, maybe she did look at Alexander the way he described.
"But you were mostly full of love and tenderness," he said, lowering his head to take a bite, savoring the memory.
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow but didn't respond.
