Chapter 1034
Alexander looked at her in confusion, for what felt like the umpteenth time.
Elizabeth approached the bedside and looked at Alexander. In the hospital corridor, doctors hurried by, and a nurse was briefing a doctor on a patient's condition.
Elizabeth glanced outside the door and then back, "I've lost count of how many times Esme has been hospitalized for suicide attempts."
"Does Esme really have depression? I can't figure it out either." Elizabeth looked at Alexander, her eyes gradually becoming silent.
If Esme initially pretended to have depression to gain Alexander's sympathy, what did this mean now?
Esme's repeated suicide attempts and self-harm—didn't she feel any pain?
For instance, Esme knew very well that Alexander would never love her again, so who was she trying to impress by committing suicide now?
"This is Esme's own choice. She could have had a bright future. Elizabeth, don't feel sad for someone else's life choices." His tone was clear and cold.
Elizabeth couldn't help but look at him.
Elizabeth smiled, "So you don't feel any pity for Esme at all?"
"Should I? Pity her for deceiving me for three years? Pity her for impersonating you to save me? Or pity her for repeatedly acting and causing me to hurt you?"
Was the chaos in their lives solely due to Alexander's choices?
Was it just because Alexander wanted to divorce Elizabeth and marry Esme that things turned out this way?
What was the initial cause? Ultimately, wasn't it Esme?
This was the ending Esme deserved, her ending.
"I know, you're probably going to say I'm heartless again. But Elizabeth, if I'm not heartless, you'll get hurt. That's the truth." Alexander's voice was still soft, indicating he hadn't fully recovered.
Every time he had a stomach illness, it felt like it took half his life. This was particularly distressing for Alexander, who had never suffered much since childhood.
Elizabeth lowered her head and said nothing.
"I didn't mean anything by it, just asking casually. I'm not so kind-hearted that I'd feel sorry for Esme seeing her like this now." She was quite mean.
At this moment, a gentle female doctor came in with a medical record and asked carefully, "Mr. Tudor, how are you feeling?"
Alexander nodded, "Much better."
"Would you like to stay in the hospital for a few days for rest? We can do a full-body checkup. I saw your health report, and you haven't had a checkup in two years. Since Ms. Percy is here to take care of you, why not do a full-body checkup?"
Alexander squinted, what?
There was too much information to process at once.
"Sure." Alexander suddenly nodded.
Elizabeth's lips parted slightly, "I don't have time to take care of you."
She wanted to go out and have fun, not stay here to take care of Alexander.
"It's okay, Ms. Percy. The checkup will only take two days. Mr. Tudor can be discharged after the checkup."
Elizabeth smiled, "It's fine, if he wants to do it, let him. I'll call his assistant to accompany him."
Alexander remained silent.
"Nolan is on vacation." Alexander suddenly said.
Elizabeth glanced at Alexander and asked coldly, "Don't you have any family?"
"Yes." He nodded, then pointed to Elizabeth, "You."
Elizabeth didn't know how to respond.
The doctor looked at the two of them and couldn't help but smile.
"Then Mr. Tudor, Ms. Percy, you two can discuss it further. If you feel unwell, contact me immediately. If there are no issues, you can go home tomorrow morning." The female doctor said before leaving.
