Chapter 1105

Elizabeth raised an eyebrow.

"Esme used to always call Nolan a bastard, and she thought Nolan was just my lapdog. She never respected Nolan. But you're different. You treat Nolan like family and only praise him," Alexander couldn't help but sigh.

He was really foolish.

When Esme belittled Nolan in the past, he never stood up for Nolan. He just gave Nolan a raise, thinking Nolan had worked hard.

Looking back now, Nolan was tormented by Esme for those years.

No wonder Nolan always helped Elizabeth during those years she was around.

Back then, he thought Elizabeth was just trying to win people over. But now he realized some qualities couldn't be faked—and even if they could, nobody maintained the act forever.

When Esme first entered his circle, she pretended, but she couldn't keep it up for even a month.

"Nolan is really impressive. If he weren't your assistant, I'd totally try to recruit him for my dad's team," Elizabeth joked.

Alexander immediately said, "No way, he's my right-hand man. I couldn't function without him."

Elizabeth rarely smiled, "That's why I said 'if'!"

"If he were working for Kieran, I would've stolen him away already!" Elizabeth added with a huff.

Alexander was pleased to see Elizabeth's old spark returning—full of energy and utterly charming.

"Well, if your dad ever actually needs Nolan's help, I wouldn't mind lending him out for a while," he offered genuinely.

Elizabeth pouted. "Okay, just don't come complaining later."

"I said 'lend,' not 'give,'" Alexander clarified seriously.

"See? You still can't stand the thought of parting with him," Elizabeth teased.

"For you? I could handle anything," he admitted.

Elizabeth curled her lips and said nothing more.

The two of them had a very ordinary meal, like a couple who had been married for a long time.

Alexander felt this meal was hard-won, and Elizabeth felt the same.

But their "hard-won" feelings were different.

Alexander felt it was hard-won because Elizabeth could forgive him and was willing to give him another chance.

Elizabeth felt it was hard-won because she used to want him to have a meal with her so much, but he was unwilling. And now, it was hard-won.

In the evening, Alexander drove Elizabeth back home.

At the entrance of the Percy Mansion, Alexander opened the car door for her.

When Elizabeth got out of the car, she deliberately left her lipstick in Alexander's car.

As she was about to leave, Alexander called her, "Elizabeth."

"What?" Elizabeth turned around.

"Can we take a photo together?" he asked.

Elizabeth originally didn't want to, but then she remembered Alexander said he wanted to announce it on Instagram tonight. She thought Alexander probably wanted to post it on Instagram, so she agreed.

Under the night sky, with the car as the backdrop, the warm yellow streetlights shone on them, making it both cozy and ordinary.

Elizabeth looked at the camera, and Alexander looked at her.

The photo button was pressed, and Alexander put away his phone.

"Good night," he said to Elizabeth gently.

Elizabeth gave him a slight smile and walked back home.

He still did as he used to, watching until the light in Elizabeth's room turned on before leaving.

Elizabeth stood on the balcony, only able to see his car, not him, as he was obscured.

After a while, he finally drove away.

Elizabeth sighed.

Soon, her phone buzzed with an Instagram notification.
