Chapter 144

The morning after the rain, the air felt super fresh.

Elizabeth was grabbing breakfast on her way to work when she overheard some nurses gossiping. "Did you hear that? Esme tried to kill herself last night!"

"Seriously?"

"Yeah! She’s in the hospital, and Mr. Tudor stayed with her all night!"

Elizabeth slowed down and glanced at the nurses' station.

Sunny walked out and greeted her. "Morning, Dr. Percy."

"Did Esme really try to commit suicide?" Elizabeth asked.

Sunny nodded. "Yep, everyone’s talking about it."

Elizabeth couldn't believe it. Just because Lily scolded Esme yesterday, she tried to kill herself?

Thinking it over, Elizabeth headed to the neurology ward.

As soon as she got off the elevator, she heard a nurse say, "Mr. Tudor is so handsome. I wish I had a boyfriend like him."

"Not just Mr. Tudor, Esme's brother is also good-looking. I heard her second brother is even more handsome!"

One nurse sighed, "Do you think Mr. Tudor and Esme make a good couple? I think Mr. Tudor and Ms. Percy are a better match. A strong CEO and a beauty like a tulip, they really suit each other!"

Elizabeth smiled helplessly. Amid all this gossip, some people still rooted for her and Alexander.

"Ms. Percy?"

Elizabeth had been noticed.

She nodded and asked, "Which room is Esme in?"

"VIP room 2022, just ahead," the nurse replied.

Elizabeth thanked her and hurried over. The door was open, and she heard Esme's voice. "Alexander, I'm sorry for causing you trouble again."

"Don't say that. You're never a trouble to me. It's my fault for letting you suffer," Alexander comforted her, even more tenderly than he did with Elizabeth in the car yesterday.

Elizabeth's hand clenched into a fist inside her coat. She walked closer and saw Alexander holding a crying Esme.

Esme's forehead and wrists were bandaged, and she looked blanched.

"Alexander, if I can't marry you, I'd rather die," she sobbed.

Alexander looked down, gently patting her back.

Elizabeth was already numb to see her husband comforting his mistress.

She turned to leave and bumped into Henry, who was coming back from paying the bills.

Henry greeted her. "Ms. Percy."

Elizabeth paused, nodded, and hurried away.

When Alexander came out, he only saw Elizabeth's retreating figure.

Henry looked at Alexander. His eyes were bloodshot from staying up all night with Esme, afraid she might try to kill herself again.

Henry sighed, patted Alexander on the shoulder, and said, "Go home and rest. I'll handle things here."

"She's not very stable," Alexander said.

Henry nodded. "Got it."

Alexander went back in to say goodbye to Esme and then left.

Esme watched him leave, a hint of ruthlessness in her eyes.

She had to use some tricks to keep Alexander!

Henry walked in, looking colder. "Is it worth hurting yourself like this for Alexander?"

"It's worth it," Esme replied without hesitation.

Henry frowned, thinking about what Elizabeth had said last night. The relationship between the three of them was too complicated for him to judge.

Esme grabbed Henry's arm, calling out pitifully, "Henry."

Henry sighed; he couldn't stand seeing Esme suffer.

He reached out and tapped her on the head.
