Chapter 1040
When Elizabeth returned to Willowbrook Estate, the family was having breakfast.
Charles groaned, "God, my head is killing me. I drank way too much last night."
Elizabeth sat down and served herself a bowl of porridge, "It's one thing for you to get wasted, but you triggered Alexander's stomach issues again."
"That's hardly my fault. He kept insisting on matching me drink for drink," Charles chuckled, then asked Elizabeth, "So how was Alexander after all that booze? Did he get wild?"
"No, he doesn't get rowdy or troublesome when drunk. He just had a bad flare-up and I ended up taking him to the ER," Elizabeth sighed, clearly exhausted from playing caretaker.
Meanwhile, Natalia was quietly watching the two of them, her knuckles white as she gripped her silverware.
Charles, too drunk to filter himself, seemed oblivious to what he'd revealed.
And Elizabeth didn't know that Natalia had discovered the secret about her origins.
Elizabeth wasn't Declan's biological daughter. She had no blood connection to the Percy family at all.
Natalia felt her heart plummet, a hollow sensation spreading through her chest. Strangely, discovering Elizabeth wasn't truly a Percy hurt more than learning she herself wasn't one.
Would Declan and the others keep this a secret forever? What would happen if Elizabeth ever found out? Would it tear the Percy family apart?
Lost in thought, Natalia barely touched her food.
Elizabeth frowned, "Natalia, are you okay? You seem distracted. Did Charles wear you out last night?"
Since Alexander drank too much, Charles must have too.
Everyone knew that Charles was most likely to throw up when drunk.
Natalia didn't look well either; she probably took care of Charles all night.
"Natalia, Elizabeth is talking to you," Charles called out to Natalia.
Natalia looked up, "What?"
"I'm fine, I was just thinking about something," Natalia forced a smile and continued eating.
Elizabeth saw that she didn't want to talk and thought it might be something related to the entertainment industry, so she didn't ask further.
"How is Alexander now?" Celine suddenly asked about Alexander's condition, which was rare.
Elizabeth replied, "He's fine, he went home."
"You guys need to ease up on the drinking. It's crazy that Alexander ended up in the hospital," Celine said with a frown, giving Charles a disapproving look.
Charles couldn't help but laugh at the thought of Alexander drinking himself into the hospital.
"Alright, alright, I hear you. My bad. I had no idea Alexander was such a lightweight—first time drinking with the guy. I'll have Elizabeth drive me over to the hospital later so I can apologize to him, okay?"
"I'm not going," Elizabeth said.
"Why not? Just take Charles," Charles said, not noticing the awkward look on Elizabeth's face.
"Elizabeth, are you really getting back together with Alexander?" Natalia asked curiously.
Elizabeth shook her head, "I told him it's not going to happen."
Celine scoffed, "Alexander is stubborn, he won't be dissuaded by a few words. If you ask me, you and Alexander are quite similar in that way."
Natalia shook her head and quickly finished her meal.
If she didn't finish soon, she'd be stuck at the table with the relatives visiting Grandpa and Grandma.
After finishing her meal, Natalia went back to her room to put on makeup.
Elizabeth helped her grandparents clear the dishes, and by then, visitors had already arrived.
Lively banter could be heard from the living room.
Elizabeth loaded the dishes into the dishwasher.
Charles walked in and said, "You doing okay, Elizabeth?"
"Yeah, I'm fine," Elizabeth smiled.
