Chapter 147
The clerk smiled and said, "Miss, you have great taste. This is the latest model that just arrived today. Each major store nationwide has only one set!"
Just as Elizabeth was about to take a closer look, she heard a woman's voice from behind. "Is there a new arrival? Let me see!"
Elizabeth and Lila both turned to look.
The newcomer was surprised to see Elizabeth. "Ms. Percy?"
Elizabeth's smile froze for a few seconds. It was Allen, Esme's mother.
"Mrs. Russell," Elizabeth greeted politely.
Allen scrutinized Elizabeth for a few seconds before moving to her side.
"Ms. Percy, you're so young, and you already like such old-fashioned things?" Allen teased.
Elizabeth responded, "Just browsing."
"I knew it. Young people like you don't have much depth."
Elizabeth fell silent.
Allen seemed easygoing and always appeared very gentle, but her words were quite uncomfortable!
Elizabeth thought it must be because both she and Esme liked Alexander, so Allen was targeting her.
"I heard you and Alexander are preparing for a divorce," Allen said while looking at the jewelry.
"Mrs. Russell, you are well-informed," Elizabeth smiled.
Allen said indifferently, "You should have divorced long ago. Holding onto a man who was never meant for you, what good will another three years do? Esme is the perfect match for Alexander in the world."
In Allen's eyes, Alexander was an excellent son-in-law.
Who wouldn't want a powerful and influential Alexander as a son-in-law?
The Russell family was at the bottom of the four major families. If Esme could marry Alexander, the Russell family would surely improve.
Besides, her daughter, Esme, deserved the best man in the world!
Allen felt sad that her biological daughter Nancy was lost. Otherwise, even if it meant losing everything, she would have made sure Nancy married Alexander!
However, Nancy was already lost, so she could only give all these benefits to Esme.
As the atmosphere grew heavy, Lila lazily remarked, "No matter how well-matched Esme and Alexander are, she's still a home-wrecking mistress."
Allen's face darkened, and she shot a sharp look at Lila.
Lila smirked, unconcerned. "Or are you saying, Mrs. Russell, that you support your daughter being a mistress?"
This statement deeply displeased Allen. She glared at Lila and said, "You're just an actress. What nonsense are you spouting in front of me?"
Seeing this, Elizabeth immediately stepped in front of Lila and reminded Allen coldly, "Mrs. Russell, Lila is my friend. Please don't speak like that."
"Neither of you is any good!" Allen snorted coldly, her voice sharp, "I don't know how the Percy family raised a girl like you. If you were my daughter, I'd be truly sad!" With that, Allen walked away without looking back.
Elizabeth stood frozen, extremely displeased.
What did their argument have to do with the Percy family?
Allen was really something, dragging the family into a fight.
"Good thing I'm not your daughter, or I'd be really unlucky!" Elizabeth shouted at Allen's retreating figure.
Allen was even angrier and stormed off.
"What kind of person is this? We were just wandering and got scolded by her," Elizabeth patted her arm, feeling truly disgusted.
After returning home, Elizabeth told Declan about the incident.
Declan said indifferently, "I think Allen is just jealous that we have such a good daughter like you, so she those rude things!"
Rose patted Elizabeth's head, her eyes gradually dimming, and she sighed inwardly.
"By the way, Elizabeth, after work tomorrow, go to this hotel address," Declan suddenly said to Elizabeth.
Elizabeth was puzzled. "To meet whom?"
Declan smiled but didn't answer her question, instead saying, "You'll know when you get there."
