Chapter 1038

"What are you looking so smug about?" Elizabeth said discontentedly, then turned and left.

Alexander watched Elizabeth's departing figure, a slight smile playing on his lips.

Outside the hospital room, Elizabeth felt a knot forming in her chest.

She glanced back and couldn't help but purse her lips. He had gotten the better of her again.

Elizabeth went to the nurse's station to pick up her takeout and overheard a nurse saying, "Ms. Russell is so pitiful. She used to be such a nice person."

Another nurse immediately retorted, "When was she ever nice? Have you forgotten how arrogant and domineering she was? And if it weren't for Esme, would Mr. Tudor and Ms. Percy have split up?"

"That's true. Anyway, Esme is getting her comeuppance now."

"One woman like Esme managed to bring down the entire Russell family. They used to be such a big deal, one of the top four families in Lisbun. Now? What 'top families'? They're practically falling apart!"

The two nurses were gossiping when they saw Elizabeth approaching. They immediately stood up and smiled, "Ms. Percy."

Elizabeth nodded, "Thank you for your hard work." She grabbed her takeout and walked away.

The two young nurses looked at each other. Watching Elizabeth's slender figure, they both sighed.

"Ms. Percy is so nice, much better than Ms. Russell!"

"Exactly, I also heard something interesting. Ms. Percy is apparently amazing with patients. The director's been trying everything to get her to join full-time, but she won't commit."

The nurse leaned in closer, "I heard Ms. Percy comes from some kind of impressive background."

"How impressive?"

"Not sure exactly. But she's definitely someone special."

Elizabeth hadn't gone far enough, and their conversation carried clearly to her ears.

Elizabeth quickly returned to the hospital room and placed the takeout on the bedside table. At that moment, Alexander was on the phone.

"It's okay, Elizabeth is here, don't worry."

"Alright, I'll come home as soon as it gets light."

"Yes, I'll bring her home with me." Alexander glanced at Elizabeth.

Elizabeth took out the hot soup and looked at Alexander, "Was that your mom?"

He nodded, still trying to placate Elara, "You should sleep, it's getting late."

"I know, I'll be more careful in the future. Alright, I'm hanging up now."

He hurriedly hung up the phone and couldn't help but sigh.

Who told Elara so late that he was sick in the hospital?

Nosy.

"Your mom is just worried about you. Next time, don't be so impatient with her," Elizabeth handed him the spoon.

"I don't have your patience," he took it.

"I'm not that patient either. I just make exceptions for certain people," Elizabeth said flatly.

Alexander paused.

Like him?

"Have some soup to warm up, then get some rest. We can head back once it's light out," Elizabeth told him.

"My mom wants me to bring you home. She said she's sorry for the trouble," Alexander said, taking a sip of porridge.

Elizabeth shook her head, "I can't. Just have Nolan come pick you up."

"She said she's making breakfast in the morning and waiting for us to come back," Alexander added.

"My grandparents are at home expecting me. How would it look if I showed up at your place instead?" Elizabeth asked him.

Alexander paused.

"Okay, I get it," he said, not pushing further.

Elizabeth nodded.

The hospital room fell silent.

It was a bit chilly in the hospital in the middle of the night. Elizabeth propped her face on the chair, closing her eyes to rest while pulling her clothes tighter for warmth.

Suddenly, Alexander got out of bed.

Elizabeth opened her eyes, puzzled, and looked at him. What was he doing?

"Go sleep on the bed."

Elizabeth didn't know how to respond, "How would that look?"

"I'm feeling much better. If you're tired, just sleep."

"No need, I'm just taking a nap." Elizabeth pushed Alexander.

Alexander was worried she might get cold and fall ill, which would be uncomfortable.

As they pushed each other, Elizabeth's foot went numb, and she couldn't stand steadily, her fingers gripping the edge of the bed.

Alexander held Elizabeth's arm and asked, "What's wrong?"

"My foot's numb," Elizabeth said calmly.

He then helped Elizabeth sit on the bed.
