Chapter 970
"No?" Elizabeth noticed that Alexander hadn't taken the water for a while.
Alexander immediately grasped the water she handed over. Their fingertips touched; his fingers were cold, hers were warm.
"You cold?" Elizabeth asked him.
He shook his head, took the water, and drank it.
Elizabeth looked up at him. Alexander's Adam's apple moved up and down, his skin was delicate, and his jawline was clear and sexy. The warm yellow light above cast a faint golden glow on him, creating an indescribable atmosphere.
"Shall we go?" he asked.
Elizabeth nodded and followed him out. Passing by the floor-to-ceiling window, she looked down. Outside, smoke was still billowing, and the fire trucks hadn't left the street across. The scene seemed to be handled in an orderly manner, and everything had returned to normal.
It was already past midnight. Elizabeth stood at the elevator door, checking the news.
The injured were being treated, and the unfortunate deaths were all kitchen staff.
The elevator door opened, and Alexander called her.
Elizabeth, somewhat lost in thought, looked up at Alexander, "What?"
Alexander said, "The elevator is here."
Elizabeth finally snapped out of it and quickly entered the elevator.
"Tired?" he asked.
Elizabeth shook her head and said, "I was thinking about something and got distracted."
Alexander nodded and pressed the button for the first floor.
"Life is really fragile; no one knows what will happen next." Elizabeth turned off her phone and couldn't help but sigh.
Alexander replied, "Indeed."
Elizabeth glanced at him. This guy really didn't know how to chat. He only knew how to say "indeed."
So annoying.
"Can you say anything else besides that?" she asked.
Alexander looked at Elizabeth.
He thought for a moment and blurted out, "I love you?"
Was that what she wanted to hear?
He wondered, wasn't that what she wanted to hear?
"Are you tired?" he asked again.
Elizabeth was completely speechless.
Didn't he just ask that? Why was he asking again?
Alexander probably realized his own dullness.
After thinking for a moment, he said, "Let me share something interesting with you."
Elizabeth looked at Alexander, willing to listen to his interesting story.
But she felt that what Alexander found interesting was probably not that interesting.
"I asked Nolan to be the acting CEO, and Nolan didn't dare. Can you believe there's someone dumber than Nolan in this world? That's the Tudor Group. How can he have no ambition at all?"
Elizabeth remained silent.
She knew it! It wouldn't be anything truly interesting.
"Mr. Tudor, this barely counts as a complaint."
Alexander didn't know how to respond.
But Elizabeth thought it was nice; at least he was sharing his life with her. Alexander never used to do that.
"You've known Nolan for so many years, don't you know him by now? He only wants his share, and he never covets what doesn't belong to him."
"You're good enough to him, so he'd rather be your assistant for life."
Besides, being completely trusted by Alexander was already impressive enough!
Alexander admitted that Elizabeth's words made some sense.
The elevator was quiet.
Elizabeth watched the numbers change in the upper right corner and asked lightly, "Anything else interesting?"
"No," he said.
