Chapter 1144
Elizabeth's heart skipped a beat.
She genuinely didn't want to have any more contact with the Russell Family, but right now, it seemed she had no choice but to take this call.
"Elizabeth, who is it?" Rose saw her hesitation and had a pretty good guess.
The Russell Family had been looking for their daughter for years, and now that the results were out, the hospital must have notified them immediately. If nothing unexpected happened, this call should be from the Russell Family.
Elizabeth replied. "Henry."
Rose guessed correctly.
"Answer it," Rose said.
Elizabeth had to answer.
Elizabeth pressed the answer button and walked out of the ward.
There was silence on the other end of the line; neither of them said anything.
After a long while, Elizabeth spoke, "Henry."
"So, it was right beside us all along. Fate really plays tricks on people," Henry said, with a mix of laughter and tears in his voice, filled with indescribable sorrow and sadness.
The Russell Family had just buried Esme.
Allen had been in a daze recently, almost like he had lost his mind.
Leon had fallen ill overnight.
The Russell Family's already bad situation had gotten worse, and only Henry was still functioning normally.
"Let's meet, Elizabeth," Henry said.
Elizabeth lowered her head, "Okay. But let me be clear, I don't plan to abandon my current parents and recognize you as my family."
"So, Henry. Even if the results show that I am the Russell Family's daughter, I hope everyone just knows it and that's it."
Elizabeth's words were cold.
Henry couldn't help but ask, "What do you mean?"
"I don't want to be the Russell Family's daughter," Elizabeth raised her eyes and explained decisively.
Henry asked, "You don't want to acknowledge your biological parents? Elizabeth, the Russell Family has never given up looking for you all these years, and it wasn't us who abandoned you; it was the hospital's mistake."
Elizabeth lowered her head, "I know."
She understood everything.
But she couldn't acknowledge them.
"My life is very good now."
"Elizabeth, I'll bring Mom and Dad to see you now. You're at the hospital, right? Then let's meet at the café across from the hospital. Wait for me."
Henry hung up the phone.
Elizabeth turned around and noticed someone behind her; it was Rose, as expected.
Rose's eyes were red.
Rose and Declan were the ones most afraid of their daughter leaving them.
Seeing Rose's red eyes, Elizabeth smiled, "Why are you crying?"
"I'm scared," she said.
"Scared that your daughter will disappear?" Elizabeth gently wiped her tears, very tenderly.
Rose nodded, "Elizabeth, this is unexpected. I never thought you would find your biological parents. What should I do? I'm very selfish. I don't want you to acknowledge your biological parents, I just..."
Elizabeth raised her finger and gently placed it on Rose's lips, "I only have one set of parents, and that's Declan and you."
In this lifetime, she would only repay Rose and Declan.
Without Rose and Declan, she wouldn't be where she was today.
Besides, she and the Russell Family had different values, and she wouldn't acknowledge them.
"Mom, don't worry. I won't leave you and Dad. I'm just going to meet them, okay?" Elizabeth gently tucked a strand of hair behind Rose's ear, extremely tenderly.
The café.
For the first time, Elizabeth felt that meeting Henry was such an anxious and unbearable thing.
She held her coffee, sighed, and took a sip. Soon, she saw Henry's figure, and beside Henry was Leon.
Elizabeth had a good impression of Leon; he was a very gentlemanly elder. But her impression of Allen was not so good.
Henry and Leon walked quickly, clearly eager to see Elizabeth.
The two stood in front of Elizabeth, and out of courtesy, Elizabeth stood up.
Leon looked at Elizabeth, and his eyes immediately turned red. He lowered his head; unusual for a man in his fifties to become so emotional. But this wasn't without reason—finding their daughter had been an agonizing journey for them.
