Chapter 199

"Then what?" Elizabeth smiled at Joseph.

Joseph couldn't help but ask, "Do you really not love him anymore?"

"Does it even matter?" Elizabeth looked out the car window.

Love or not, it seemed out of reach. Did it really matter?

"Joseph." Elizabeth suddenly pointed out the window.

A small fountain square was packed with people.

Joseph got the hint.

Elizabeth stepped out of the car, ready to remind Joseph to drive safe, but saw him getting out too.

"I'll hang out for a bit and then grab a cab home," Elizabeth said.

"I'll join you," he replied warmly.

Elizabeth shook her head, "Your dad's still in the hospital."

"He's fine now. I'll go back later." He smiled and walked ahead.

Elizabeth was momentarily stunned and hurried to catch up.

Kids were having a blast in the fountain. Despite the late hour, the place was buzzing.

Elizabeth got bumped into, and a few kids giggled and apologized before continuing their play.

Her clothes got a bit wet.

Elizabeth's eyes caught some helium balloons nearby.

A beautiful butterfly balloon floated inside a transparent one.

Joseph noticed and bought one for her.

"Here you go, kiddo," he said with a smile.

Elizabeth's heart skipped a beat.

She raised the balloon and sighed, "I wish I could always be a kid. I really don't want to grow up!"

"You can," he said gently.

Their eyes met, and Elizabeth seemed to get what he meant.

Suddenly, she got splashed with water.

A few kids shouted, "Miss, come play with us! Come on!"

Elizabeth's thoughts drifted back to her childhood.

She used to have so many friends.

Now, she wondered why her life had turned so bleak.

Joseph handed her a water gun. Elizabeth was surprised, 'Where did this come from?'

Joseph pointed to a nearby vendor.

Elizabeth smiled and glanced at the kids, "Don't cry later, okay?"

"Run!" The kids scattered.

Elizabeth quickly joined them.

Joseph watched from a distance and snapped a few photos.

Just as he was admiring the shots, Elizabeth appeared behind him, "Mr. Stewart, want to join?"

Joseph turned around, and Elizabeth's eyes sparkled, looking so different from her usual self. She really looked like a kid.

A kid was about to splash water on Elizabeth. Joseph quickly shielded her, getting his shirt soaked.

Now, he had no choice but to join in.

After a while, Elizabeth sat on the ground, waving at Joseph, "I can't do it anymore."

"Are you surrendering?" he asked with a smile.

Elizabeth nodded, "Yes, I surrender."

Joseph ruffled her hair and sat beside her.

Watching the happy kids, they both fell silent.

Elizabeth wiped her hair and heard Joseph say, "Elizabeth, I hope you can open your heart soon."
