Chapter 1080

Bikinis were everywhere on the beach. The sound of children laughing filled the air.

Elizabeth looked at the children nearby, her eyes filled with a growing smile, "So cute."

Alexander was replying to a message. Hearing Elizabeth's words, he followed her gaze.

A little boy sat on the warm sand, juice box in hand, blowing bubbles that danced in the ocean breeze. The sun cast a golden glow across his face, highlighting his look of wonder as each bubble caught the light before floating away toward the waves.

Elizabeth couldn't help but glance at Alexander.

When they first started dating, she had daydreamed about how beautiful their children would be. She had wanted to start a family with him—create something that embodied their love.

It wasn't until after the wedding that Elizabeth realized the bitter truth: when a man didn't love you, even your presence irritated him, let alone any desire for intimacy.

Yet some men, she'd learned, would keep you without loving you. They wanted your devotion, your body—everything—without giving their heart in return.

For that, at least, she felt oddly grateful to Alexander. He had never tried to make love to her.

"Do you prefer boys or girls?" Alexander's voice sounded in her ear.

Elizabeth shook her head, "I don't know."

"Have you never thought about having children?" he asked.

Elizabeth's lips curled up, still calm and indifferent, her face showing no extra emotions, "It never crossed my mind."

How could she have never thought about it?

When you truly loved someone, you imagined a future with them.

Alexander was quiet for a moment, then said softly, "Is it that you never thought about it, or that you don't want to admit you had those thoughts when you loved me?"

Elizabeth turned to look at Alexander. "I've always been honest about my past. There's nothing to hide. If anyone asks if I used to love you, I'll admit it."

Alexander saw the seriousness in Elizabeth's eyes.

Elizabeth lay back down, slipped on her sunglasses, and said coolly, "I just want to enjoy the sun. Don't disturb me."

Alexander frowned, carefully observing her.

He always acted quickly and decisively, but in front of Elizabeth, he always hesitated.

Like now.

He felt he had a lot to say to Elizabeth, but couldn't get the words out.

Alexander lowered his head, frowning.

The waves swept the shore, everything seemed so peaceful.

Alexander looked at her again and slowly spoke, "Elizabeth, let's start over."

Elizabeth glanced at him. 'Here we go again,' she thought.

"What do you mean? You're looking at me but not saying anything." Alexander couldn't help but feel anxious.

"I don't feel like talking, so I won't."

"I'm being serious," Alexander said.

"And my answer isn't?"

Alexander's face showed displeasure.

Was her answer serious?

It really wasn't.

"I mean it, Elizabeth. Let's start over. I don't want to keep missing out on what we could have." His eyes were earnest.

Elizabeth looked at Alexander through her sunglasses, her gaze gradually becoming complex.

In truth, she already knew her answer about whether to start over with him.

But when it came to saying it out loud, she couldn't bring herself to agree so easily.

"If you think I'm not being formal enough, I can make it official," he said, noticing her hesitation.

Elizabeth shook her head, "It's not about formality. I just can't convince myself this is right."

Alexander remained silent, just watching Elizabeth.

"It's not just that I can't convince myself. I can't face my family either. Can you understand that?"

"Alexander, for you, love is simple. If we got back together, your family would be thrilled. But it's different for me. If I took you back, everyone in my family would be devastated. They're afraid I'd end up in that dark place again."

"Yes, being with you might mean falling back into that abyss." Elizabeth looked at him steadily, her voice clear and measured.

Alexander was speechless.

He knew the Percy family opposed him, and he knew Elizabeth wouldn't forgive him easily, but he never expected that she'd see reuniting with him as falling into an abyss.

"So Elizabeth, what would it take for you to give me another chance?"
