Chapter 989

Alexander asked, "What's wrong?"

"My parents went on a trip," Elizabeth said, sounding a bit stunned.

Alexander smiled, "They seem pretty happy."

"The point is, I never heard them mention they were going on a trip. They left so suddenly and just abandoned me," Elizabeth said, pursing her lips.

"Does that mean you'll be home alone?" Alexander asked.

Elizabeth nodded, "Yeah. Isn't it sudden?"

Alexander was silent.

After a while, he asked, "Are you scared? Do you want me to keep you company?"

Elizabeth looked at Alexander, surprised. What?

He wanted to keep her company?

"I wasn't scared before, but now that you mention it, I am a little," Elizabeth smiled, politely declining.

Alexander pursed his lips, feeling like he was being seen as a creep.

He didn't mean anything by it; he just thought Elizabeth misunderstood him.

He genuinely was just worried she might be scared.

As the car drove into the city, Alexander slowly spoke, "By the way, my grandma said..."

Elizabeth, who was looking at her phone, suddenly said, "I'll be busy tomorrow."

"What?" Alexander looked over, just as the light turned red.

"The research institute has made some new progress. I need to work with everyone to summarize it and plan for next year."

"Can't someone else do it?" he asked.

Elizabeth shook her head, "I'm the director. Some things need my personal attention."

"Is there hope for SH2N within ten years?" Alexander asked Elizabeth.

Elizabeth sighed, "If things go smoothly, three years. If not, ten years." This was what Celine had said at the time.

Alexander pressed, "Will you keep at it?"

"We've already invested so many resources; it would be a shame to give up halfway. Unless one day we really can't continue the research, then maybe we'll give up."

But for now, there was still hope. So Elizabeth wanted to keep going.

"I heard a lot of money has already been invested," Alexander said lightly.

Elizabeth nodded, "But it's okay, someone will always continue. For example..." She suddenly stopped mid-sentence.

Alexander looked at Elizabeth.

Elizabeth smiled. "Someone" referred to him, exactly.

Elizabeth smiled, her tone a bit lighter, "Mr. Tudor, thank you for your contribution to SH2N. Whether this project succeeds or not, I will thank you formally in the end."

Alexander nodded, "You're welcome."

"You're still worried about the money, aren't you?" Elizabeth couldn't help but tease.

"No. Isn't making money for a purpose? If it can help more people, I'm willing," he replied.

Elizabeth had to look at him again.

Although Alexander was a bit of a jerk in relationships, he had always been good in terms of philanthropy.

The Tudor Group had made significant contributions to charity over the years.

Alexander was still a great person.

Thinking back on Alexander's contributions to the country and his excellence in other areas, Elizabeth couldn't help but feel moved by him.

He was truly outstanding.

Women were always drawn to strength.

"Alexander," Elizabeth called out to him.

Alexander looked at her.

"I'm really afraid of repeating the same mistakes."

Alexander nodded, "I know."

With one hand on the steering wheel, in the dimly lit car, his voice was particularly deep, "I naturally hope we can start over and have a future. But I also want you to be happy, that's my true intention."

"So Elizabeth, I won't pressure you. I won't give you any stress. I just want these three months, okay?"

Elizabeth could feel Alexander's sincerity; she didn't want to make things difficult for him anymore.

If they were truly meant for each other, there was no point in mutual torment.

"Okay."
