Chapter 155
"Elizabeth, when's my compensation coming through?" Alexander cut to the chase.
Elizabeth wanted to snap at him for always calling, but she held back. "Allocating funds takes time, Mr. Tudor. You know the drill."
"Transfer the money tonight," Alexander demanded, clearly annoyed.
Elizabeth went silent. Was he serious? Banks were closed at this hour!
"I'm at The Metropolis. Come over now," he ordered.
Elizabeth's heart skipped a beat. It had been ages since Alexander spoke to her like this.
Years ago, she would've dropped everything to be there for him, feeling honored to be needed. But she never got any respect in return, which strained their marriage.
"I can't tonight. I'll transfer the money tomorrow morning," she said softly and hung up.
She wasn't the same person anymore. After everything with Alexander, she had grown. She still had feelings for him but wouldn't do anything foolish to get his attention.
Alexander stared at the disconnected call, his face darkening. Elizabeth had actually hung up on him.
As she was about to enter her room, Alexander called again. She didn't answer and texted him: [I'll transfer the money first thing in the morning.]
'It's just thirty million dollars,' she thought. 'I'll give it to him.'
As the richest person in Lisbun, he was stingy even with such a small amount of money for her. His generosity was reserved only for Esme.
She was about to block his number when she got a reply.
Alexander: [Are you having dinner with Joseph, so you can't come?]
Elizabeth frowned, confused. 'When did I ever have dinner with Joseph?'
She blocked his number and entered the private room.
Alexander was out of touch with her. He stood outside the restaurant, uneasy, thinking about Elizabeth's words about liking Joseph.
Leaning against his car, he tugged at his suit collar, his expression dark. He stood there for a long time before getting in the car.
He lit a cigarette, feeling heavy inside. After finishing it, he realized he had no right to control Elizabeth.
If she ended up with Joseph, maybe it wouldn't be so bad.
He started the engine and drove out of the roundabout. As the security guard directed him, he turned back immediately.
He stopped at the restaurant entrance, asked the waiter for Elizabeth's private room, and strode in.
He could accept Elizabeth having a new boyfriend, but they weren't divorced yet. He wouldn't allow her to cheat and affect him.
With this thought, he quickened his pace, the cold scent of him mixed with cigarette smoke.
He stopped at the door of private room 2109, thinking about everything Elizabeth had given him and how she might give the same to Joseph. It made him furious.
He wouldn't let that happen. He never did things that made him feel wronged.
He knocked on the door, his face grim, ready for a fight.
As the door opened, his face grew even darker.
