Chapter 167
Alexander pursed his lips. "Let's go to your place," he said.
Esme's eyes lit up. She wrapped her arm around Alexander's and walked out with a big smile.
The black Ferrari drove off.
Elizabeth sat in the passenger seat, staring ahead, feeling a deep sadness.
Alexander and Esme went home for dinner; he met her parents and brother.
Elizabeth remembered when she and Alexander first got married. She wanted to take him home to show Declan she made the right choice. But Alexander kept postponing it and had only met Declan a few times. His love and indifference were clear.
Elizabeth looked at Alexander's name in her phone's blacklist, then at the car driving away. She wondered, 'If I called Alexander now, would he leave Esme and come to me?'
Fueled by alcohol or maybe Alexander's actions, she decided to try. She unblocked his number and called.
The night was dark, with only the high-rise buildings looking luxurious.
Elizabeth clutched her phone. After the last ring, someone answered.
A woman's voice said, "Who is this?"
Elizabeth realized it was Esme. She didn't believe Alexander hadn't saved her contact.
"Esme, I'm looking for Alexander," Elizabeth said clearly.
Esme, sitting in the passenger seat, looked at Alexander, who was on another call. "Alexander is busy. Do you need something?" she asked.
Elizabeth stayed silent.
Esme continued, "Elizabeth, are you still deluding yourself that Alexander will love you? When will you divorce him? Are you happy holding a position that isn't yours? Stop clinging on; it's disgusting."
Elizabeth looked out the window, said nothing, and hung up.
Esme sneered at the hung-up call. 'Elizabeth wants to take Alexander from me? Not a chance!' She deleted the call record, looked at Alexander, and put the phone back.
Alexander got in the car. Esme smiled at him. He checked his phone, saw nothing unusual, and drove to the Russell family.
Frustrated, Elizabeth called Lila, dragging her out to drink again.
Lila was sleeping when she got a call from Elizabeth. She changed clothes, put on a mask and hat, and came over.
By the time she arrived at the bar, Elizabeth was already mingling with the men, standing out in the crowd.
Lila sat at the bar, arms crossed, looking at Elizabeth helplessly.
When Elizabeth got tired of dancing, she came over to drink, then went back to flirt with the men.
Everyone respectfully called her Ms. Percy as she moved through the crowd.
Lila squinted, feeling sorry for her. How did Elizabeth end up like this?
Just as Elizabeth was enjoying herself, she caught sight of an acquaintance!
