Chapter 145
Esme choked up, "Henry, I really want to marry Alexander."
"I'll help you." Henry sighed. "The Russell family only has one daughter. Whatever you want, we'll make it happen."
Esme burst into tears, hugging Henry. "Thank you, Henry."
Alexander didn't go straight home; he went to the cardiology department instead.
When he arrived, Elizabeth was staring out the window in the corridor, looking lonely.
Elizabeth sighed, composed herself, and turned around, meeting Alexander's eyes.
Alexander stood a few meters away, one hand in his pocket, looking tired.
They stared at each other, neither speaking.
Finally, Alexander turned and left.
Elizabeth thought about how Alexander had comforted Esme earlier and smiled bitterly.
She watched him leave, not calling out.
Elizabeth's phone rang, delivering a breaking news alert.
#This morning, Ethan announced that the Tudor Group secured the C3G land near Lisbun Airport. The Stewart Group lost out!#
Alexander got that land, so he could build a mansion for Esme now.
Once the mansion was built, Elizabeth and Alexander would probably divorce, and he could marry Esme.
Elizabeth texted Joseph to comfort him.
Elizabeth: [You did great.]
Joseph replied quickly: [The Stewart Group can't compete with the Tudor Group. Unluckily, I encountered Alexander, a formidable opponent.]
What annoyed Joseph more was that Alexander didn't even attend the meeting; Nolan went instead!
Alexander really didn't care about them.
Joseph: [Let's have dinner tonight.]
Elizabeth: [Okay.]
She put away her phone and went back to work.
In the evening, when Joseph came to pick up Elizabeth, she happened to see Alexander holding Esme's dinner at the hospital entrance.
Elizabeth's eyes met Alexander's for a moment, and they both looked away, passing each other without a word.
Elizabeth lowered her eyes and walked towards Joseph.
"What happened between you and Alexander?" Joseph was surprised.
A few days ago, Alexander was at odds with Alexander. Why were they so calm today?
Elizabeth got in the car and fastened her seatbelt. "Esme attempted suicide for him."
"I thought she was just messing around, but it was real?" Joseph was surprised.
Elizabeth nodded, looking towards the hospital entrance, thinking this might be the end for her and Alexander.
"Don't be upset. What do you want to eat? I'll treat you." Joseph's tone was more cheerful.
Elizabeth smiled. "You're the one who lost out; I should be comforting you, right?"
"It's all the same. Let's comfort each other." Joseph shrugged, indicating they were both pretty miserable.
Elizabeth propped her face on her hand, looking out the window gloomily.
Joseph glanced at Elizabeth several times.
While waiting for the green light, Joseph suddenly called her, "Elizabeth."
"What's up?"
Joseph was silent for a few seconds. He adjusted his glasses, his lips pressed together. After hesitating, he tentatively asked, "How about we give it a try?"
