Chapter 1104

Elizabeth soon heard Alexander say, "Will I ever see you looking at me like that again?"

Back then, Elizabeth's feelings for Alexander were pure love.

No complications, no reservations.

Her devotion to him was driven solely by that love.

Elizabeth didn't know if she could love him as wholeheartedly as before.

But she knew she still loved Alexander.

Perhaps the difference was like ten versus five—not gone, just diminished.

"We've switched roles, haven't we?" Alexander looked at her. For some reason, he felt quite uncomfortable.

Elizabeth was silent. "Alexander, let the past be the past. Let's live well from now on."

"You say that as if you just rejected me." Alexander sighed. "So heartless, Elizabeth."

Elizabeth clicked her tongue. Did he think she was heartless?

"Fine, let's talk about it. Let's see who was more heartless—me now or you back then?" Elizabeth rolled up her sleeves, ready to speak.

Alexander immediately cut her off, "Stop!"

It was definitely him who was more heartless back then.

He didn't even dare to think about it.

For Esme, he had tortured Elizabeth to the brink of death.

"Actually, what hurt me the most was that time on the stairs at your house." Elizabeth felt that incident was something she could never let go of in her life.

"Even though I knew you didn't like me, you used to just say a few words for Esme. But that time, it made me feel that you truly, genuinely, never chose me."

Elizabeth laughed bitterly.

What happened that day, she would remember for the rest of her life.

If possible, she wouldn't forget it in the next life either.

"Do you believe me, that day I wanted to catch you?" Alexander looked into her eyes.

He wasn't lying to Elizabeth.

That day, he really wanted to catch Elizabeth.

But sometimes things didn't go as planned. Perhaps catching Esme should have happened back then.

"Do you want me to believe you?" Elizabeth asked him.

Her question left him speechless.

"Elizabeth, I know you don't believe me. I won't force you. After all, if I put myself in your shoes back then, I wouldn't believe what I'm saying now either." Alexander felt bitter inside.

Elizabeth didn't say anything more.

If it were the old her, she would have said she believed him.

She might have even convinced herself.

She would have spoken up for Alexander and so on.

But now, even if she and Alexander were back together, she wouldn't completely believe what Alexander said.

Maybe, with time, it would get better.

"Let's talk about something happy." Elizabeth didn't want to continue talking about the past with him.

The more they talked, the more she felt like kicking herself.

She was starting to question getting back together with Alexander!

One minute she'd feel certain, the next completely lost!

"Alright." Alexander agreed readily.

Elizabeth asked, "You haven't been running the company for a while now. Have things been crazy busy for you lately?"

Alexander shook his head. "Not really. Nolan's been handling everything for me. He's really grown into the role. I handed the reins over to him, and he's keeping things running just as smoothly as when I was there."

"It's hard to find someone that reliable, Alexander. You got lucky." When Elizabeth praised Nolan, she also thought of her Winford.

Having Winford was her luck too.

"Maybe that's why Nolan likes you and not Esme." Alexander laughed.
