Chapter 1090

Lila coughed.

Cecilia and her assistant didn't expect anyone to be there.

They were stunned, then started walking over.

Cecilia figured that even if someone had overheard them, they'd just brush it off with a casual complaint. After all, she was the leading actress, and everyone kissed up to her, so nothing would come of it.

As they got closer, Cecilia was about to ask why they were eavesdropping when she saw Lila sitting in a rocking chair, looking at her indifferently.

Lila, the industry's biggest star, wore a thin white dress, her hair flowing down her back, with barely any makeup. Though she looked fragile, her presence was undeniable. She simply stared at Cecilia, who was so stunned she couldn't speak. Even the assistant seemed lost for words, stammering awkwardly.

Finally, she said, "Ms. Parker, you're here!"

Lila looked at them indifferently, "Sorry, I didn't mean to eavesdrop on your conversation."

"Of course not! We were the ones talking out in the open!" The assistant quickly jumped in, taking the blame.

Lila's eyes crinkled with amusement. This assistant was savvy, but this Cecilia...

Look at Cecilia's expression, full of defiance. Cecilia didn't seem to know how to handle people well.

But that was showbiz for you: a clueless actor paired with a tactful manager.

Usually, such combinations lasted longer than when both were clueless.

Lila reflected on her early days in the industry; her manager hadn't been very skilled, and Lila had to humble herself to clean up many messes.

Cecilia's attitude didn't anger Lila; she just found it a bit amusing.

"It was rude of her to eavesdrop on us. Why are you apologizing?" Cecilia whispered, tugging at her assistant, signaling her not to be so subservient and overly eager.

Lila silently took in Cecilia's every move.

Cecilia gave Lila a subtle glare.

Lila chose to understand; after all, Cecilia was now a leading actress, and it was normal for her to look down on others.

"I think Ms. Thorne has a good image," Lila said.

The assistant was inexplicably surprised, "Ms. Parker!"

"If I come across a suitable role for Ms. Thorne in the future, I'll contact you and make an introduction. How about that?" Lila smiled gently, exuding an incredible warmth.

But at the same time, Lila was genuinely feeling a bit uncomfortable.

Kieran was taking too long to buy that chocolate; why wasn't he back yet?

The assistant swallowed, "Oh my God, thank you, Ms. Parker! Working with you would be huge for Cecilia. She'd be so lucky!"

"Right, Cecilia?" The assistant nudged Cecilia's arm, signaling her to quickly thank Lila.

This was Lila, for crying out loud.

If Lila made an introduction, it would be to A-list productions, premium cable or streaming shows!

Sure, being the lead in a small web series was nice, but even a supporting role in a major film, if played well, could attract more fans and carry more weight than a lead role in something minor!

Cecilia found it a bit unbelievable.

Lila didn't strike her as someone who'd do favors easily.

Would she really be so generous as to share opportunities?

Lila noticed the scrutiny in Cecilia's eyes and couldn't help but say, "I don't have any ulterior motives. I just think you've got potential, and running into each other today feels like fate. I climbed the ladder just like you're doing now, so I have a soft spot for actors working their way up from the bottom."

In other words, Lila had been through tough times and wanted to help Cecilia.

Of course, if Cecilia didn't want the help, that was her call.

Either way, Lila had extended the olive branch.

"Yeah, right," Cecilia muttered under her breath.

Lila naturally heard this.

The manager glared at Cecilia in frustration, as if to say: What's wrong with you? Lila is helping you, and instead of being grateful, you're questioning her intentions?

"I mean no harm," Lila smiled.
