Chapter 973

That feeling was too suffocating.

Elizabeth's back was completely pressed against the wall, and she sat on the ground, gasping for air.

Alexander adjusted her clothes, noticing that Elizabeth was trying hard to suppress her fear.

"It's okay to be scared. I'm here. Why are you holding it in?" he didn't understand.

Elizabeth looked up and saw Alexander's blurry outline.

"I have to be strong on my own. This time you're here with me, but what if something like this happens again and you're not around?"

Of course, she could randomly grab a passerby and hold on to them.

But she didn't want to do that.

It was too embarrassing.

She'd rather resist on her own, so she could face such situations calmly next time.

Alexander chuckled, a hint of sadness in his eyes, "How come I never knew you were this strong?"

"You don't understand me at all," Elizabeth retorted, "The me you see is the me I want you to see. Alexander, you only see the surface of me."

Alexander fell silent instantly.

Yes, he didn't understand her at all.

Elizabeth lowered her head, feeling much better, her emotions completely calmed down.

The elevator stopped on the fourth floor, at least it wasn't that high. Just now, falling from dozens of floors was truly terrifying.

"I'll get to know you slowly. I need you to give me a chance," Alexander's voice was gentle, making him seem especially reassuring in the quiet night.

Elizabeth looked at him, not resisting.

Voices came from outside the elevator again: "Mr. Tudor? Are you in there?"

"Mr. Tudor? Are you okay?"

"Ms. Percy?"

Alexander immediately looked outside and responded, "We're in here."

"Mr. Tudor, we're really sorry, the elevator malfunctioned. There was a fire across the street, causing electrical issues in the entire building."

"Mr. Tudor, we'll get you and Ms. Percy out right away!"

Alexander and Elizabeth exchanged a glance. Hearing those voices made Elizabeth feel more at ease.

So it was because of a fire across the street.

Voices came from outside, and Alexander's phone started to get a signal.

A call came in, and Alexander answered. It was Nolan, "Mr. Tudor?"

"Mr. Tudor, did the elevator malfunction? I'm on my way."

Alexander frowned, "Rescue personnel are here."

"I'll be there soon."

Alexander nodded, "Okay."

Elizabeth's phone also rang. It was a message from Declan, telling her to come home early.

Elizabeth didn't reply and quietly waited for the people outside to rescue them.

She didn't know how long they waited, but finally, a sliver of light appeared.

"Mr. Tudor!" someone called out to Alexander first.

Elizabeth looked outside, the flashlight's beam was so bright that she couldn't open her eyes.

But she could feel someone supporting her waist and back.

She heard Alexander's voice in her ear, "Get Elizabeth out first."

Elizabeth had to look at Alexander.

Alexander nodded, signaling for Elizabeth to go out first.

Elizabeth didn't say anything, being pushed by Alexander, and someone above pulled her out.

The moment she got out, her legs felt weak.

Just then, Nolan arrived, and Elizabeth instinctively fell forward.

Nolan quickly reached out and caught Elizabeth.

Elizabeth thanked him and turned to look at Alexander.

Suddenly, the elevator started shaking again!
