Chapter 988
There were hardly any cars on the road.
Elizabeth sat in the passenger seat next to Alexander, resting her face on her hand, the phone screen faintly illuminating her face.
The trending news was all about Steve. Elizabeth scrolled through it, admiring her own skills in the process.
In the quiet, Alexander spoke up, "How long have you been racing?"
Elizabeth looked up, thought for a moment, "Since I was eighteen, as soon as I got my license."
"When did you stop racing?" he asked.
Elizabeth pressed her lips together, her tone calm, "You said you liked well-behaved women."
At this, Alexander looked at her.
Elizabeth looked back at him, their eyes meeting, both of them very calm.
Alexander's calmness came from not knowing how to respond to the statement about liking well-behaved women.
Her calmness came from having long since lost most of her emotions in front of Alexander.
"So you haven't raced in these years?"
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow, "Yeah, Steve has been retired for a long time."
Alexander frowned, his expression finally showing some change.
The car wasn't moving fast, and Elizabeth felt a bit warm inside.
She rolled down the window a bit.
Alexander asked her, "Do you regret it?"
Elizabeth looked out the window, unable to see anything in the pitch black.
"Yes," Elizabeth answered honestly.
Alexander was silent.
"But I don't regret pursuing you," Elizabeth looked at Alexander, "After all, how would I know if I could get you if I didn't try?"
She gave a lazy smile, as if to hide her sadness.
But Alexander said, "I regret it."
"What do you regret?"
"I regret wavering between you and Esme back then."
Elizabeth nonchalantly twirled her phone, "Alright, I'm tired of hearing that."
Alexander gave a bitter smile.
He said, "But I'm really surprised you're Steve, Elizabeth. Very impressive."
"Thanks," Elizabeth raised an eyebrow, "I'll take that as a compliment."
"I am complimenting you, isn't it obvious?"
Elizabeth replied, "Not really."
"What would make it obvious?" Alexander was puzzled.
Elizabeth's phone rang.
It was Declan.
Elizabeth answered the call and heard Declan say, "Your mom and I are going on a trip."
Elizabeth was stunned. "What? So suddenly?"
Declan's voice was carefree, "Yes."
"But Dad, you guys... Doesn't Mom have a fashion show to do?"
Declan asked, "Didn't you see the news? It's been postponed."
Declan continued, "Alright, we're about to board the plane. During this time, don't disturb your mom and me. That's the greatest respect for our trip. That's it."
The call was disconnected.
Elizabeth was puzzled.
They left so suddenly?
What about the company?
And the other fashion show?
