Chapter 1023
"Annoying," Celine said, rubbing her forehead with one hand.
Elizabeth laughed, while Grant remained indifferent.
It seemed like this scene happened often.
"Can't you find a way to make the public like you, Natalia?" Elizabeth asked curiously.
"It's so frustrating. I don't want to appease those who blindly slander me," Natalia said irritably.
Elizabeth replied, "But there's no other way. You chose to be a star."
Natalia was angry about this.
Those people couldn't even tell right from wrong. They just parroted whatever others said! And then she had to go and appease them, explaining everything bit by bit.
Although the halo of being a star was big and the money was good, without a strong mind and heart, it was not advisable to enter the entertainment industry.
"Alright, let's make some ravioli. Stop arguing. If you keep arguing, everyone will get a few ravioli and go home," Celine said.
The living room quieted down.
Elizabeth glanced at Alexander.
Alexander seemed fine, his expression calm.
It seemed he often argued with employees at the company, so this was nothing special.
As night fell, the outside gradually became lively.
Fireworks lit up the sky outside.
Elizabeth stood at the door watching the fireworks, while Charles was cooking ravioli. Natalia was amusing Grant with something, making him laugh continuously.
A gust of wind blew by.
Elizabeth couldn't help but rub her arms. She was dressed lightly, wearing just a knit sweater, which couldn't keep out the cold.
She looked up at the sky, and suddenly a coat was draped over her shoulders.
Elizabeth paused and turned her head, meeting Alexander's gentle gaze. He had draped her coat over her.
Elizabeth smiled, "My house is noisy, isn't it?"
Alexander shook his head, "Not really."
"My parents aren't here. If they were, it would be even noisier," Elizabeth recalled the years before she married Alexander.
Having many people around was fun; everyone talking made it lively.
The reason she asked Alexander if her house was noisy was because the Tudor family was very quiet.
The Tudor family only had Lily, Blake, and Elara. Including Elizabeth, there were just four people.
The Tudor family members were quite reserved. Except for Elara occasionally seeking some fun, most of the time it was very quiet.
"I'm sorry, Elizabeth," Alexander suddenly apologized in the quiet.
Elizabeth was a bit surprised, "Why?"
"I just realized how happy your life used to be," he said, looking at Elizabeth. Every time he saw her happiness, he realized how awful he had been before.
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow.
She had been cherished and loved since she was a child.
"From now on, I won't let you suffer any grievances," he said softly, his eyes sincere.
Elizabeth just looked up at the fireworks.
A sense of security was more reliable when you gave it to yourself.
Men's words, well, you could listen to them.
Of course, it was not that she didn't trust Alexander.
She did.
But she wouldn't give herself wholeheartedly to a man like she used to.
She would also protect herself, ensuring she wouldn't suffer any grievances.
