Chapter 1033

Alexander gazed at Elizabeth.

Her words were enough for him.

He didn't dare to ask for more.

"Can we both just hold on a little longer?" His voice was soft, almost pleading with her not to give up so easily.

"I'll make sure your grandparents accept me gradually. I'll work hard to win over your parents too. Elizabeth, why can't you give me a chance?"

"I've tried so hard already. Do you want my efforts to be in vain?"

They had come this far; there was no turning back for him.

He had to see it through to the end, just like Elizabeth had once done.

Elizabeth felt a tingling pain in her heart.

She looked down at the floor. The sound of nurses hurriedly pushing beds echoed in the hallway.

Elizabeth looked up at him.

Alexander furrowed his brows, his voice growing hoarse, "Can we give it a try, please?"

She had been brave enough to persist until the end.

He could do it too.

The surroundings were silent.

Elizabeth's lips parted slightly, just about to speak, when someone outside the door said, "Quick, call Dino Thibodeaux! Get Dr. Dino down here!"

"The patient attempted suicide, currently suffering from severe blood loss, and is unconscious!"

Elizabeth's gaze shifted outside, seeing a nurse covered in blood passing by the room.

Elizabeth stood up straight, hearing someone say, "The patient, Esme, has severe depression and has attempted suicide multiple times."

What?

Elizabeth even doubted if she had heard it right.

Until she saw the surprise in Alexander's eyes, she was sure she had heard correctly.

It was Esme.

Elizabeth pressed her lips together and walked out of the room, seeing several nurses pushing a bed, the sound of the wheels grating. The person's hand hung off the side of the bed, dripping bright red blood along the way, making Elizabeth's eyes ache.

When the person's pale face flashed before her, Elizabeth's heart trembled.

The person barely clinging to life on that bed, who else could it be but Esme?

Esme was covered in blood, her wrists, her neck.

Behind her was the sound of a woman's crying, adding a touch of desolation and horror to the night corridor.

"Esme."

"My Esme."

Elizabeth looked back, wasn't that Ellen?

Ellen was crying so hard she couldn't straighten up, with Leon supporting her nearby.

Elizabeth didn't want to see them in such a miserable state, so she turned and leaned against the wall, avoiding them.

Two people walked past the door, and only then did Elizabeth slowly walk out.

As soon as she stood still, her shoulder was bumped.

Turning around, Elizabeth held her shoulder and saw Henry.

Elizabeth was somewhat surprised.

Henry's current state was much worse than before. He had white hair now, and his whole appearance was unkempt, as if he had no time to take care of himself.

He used to be impeccably dressed, gentlemanly and elegant.

Now he looked like a desperate man, disheveled and unkempt.

Henry glanced at Elizabeth, said nothing, quickly picked up his things from the ground, and walked away.

Elizabeth watched the backs of the three of them, her brows furrowed. That inexplicable pain in her heart resurfaced.

Very strange, very strange.

"What are you looking at? Is it funny?" Alexander's voice came from behind.

Elizabeth snapped out of her thoughts and looked at Alexander.

Alexander's expression was cold, showing no sympathy for the Russell Family. They deserved it, in his opinion.

"I've lost count of how many times this has happened." Elizabeth's voice was soft.

It seemed she always encountered Esme's suicide attempts at the hospital. It always brought her face to face with the Russell Family.

It was as if fate was deliberately guiding something.
