Chapter 148
Elizabeth got a rude wake-up call from Felix early the next morning.
"Boss, we have a problem!" Felix sounded panicked.
Still half-asleep, Elizabeth mumbled, "What is it?"
"Alexander found out M Base hacked his group's security system yesterday."
Elizabeth frowned. 'Didn't we cover this yesterday?'
"Today, he discovered I planted a virus on his phone."
Elizabeth shot up in bed. "Felix, what the hell happened? How did you get caught?"
"But!" Felix added, "I'm still safe for now."
Elizabeth put the call on speaker and asked, "What do you mean?"
"He hasn't traced it back to me yet. I've protected myself and M Base. But..."
Elizabeth was heading to the bathroom when Felix mumbled, "I blamed you. I said you paid us a lot for the job, and we did it for the money."
His voice trailed off.
Elizabeth stood at the bathroom door, clenching her fist, staring at the phone.
The room fell silent.
Then she exploded, "Felix! I'll kill you!"
Felix pleaded, "Boss, I messed up!"
Elizabeth picked up the phone, shaking with anger.
"Boss, I know you're mad, but think about it. I'm an outsider, but you're his wife! He can't do anything to you, right? Do you want M Base exposed? If it is, your identity as M will be too! I had no choice. Just bear with it for now! You'll understand my position!" Felix said earnestly.
Elizabeth was fuming. 'Understand? Understand what!'
Felix hadn't heard what Alexander said to Nolan on the phone.
He said he'd find the person responsible and cutting off a finger wouldn't be too much!
Alexander always meant what he said. What if he really cut off her finger?
Elizabeth had even thought about getting insurance for Felix's fingers. And he betrayed her!
Felix hung up. Elizabeth gritted her teeth, pacing in circles.
The phone rang again. She thought it was Felix, but it was an unknown number.
She answered, and Alexander's cold voice came through. "Elizabeth, you really outdid yourself."
Elizabeth was silent. It was Alexander.
She glanced at the number and awkwardly smiled. "Mr. Tudor, you changed your number? I saved..."
Before she could finish speaking, Alexander angrily interrupted, "You blocked my number, Ms. Percy. Did you forget?"
Elizabeth was silent. She had forgotten, but now she remembered.
"I'm at Bluebell Bistro, Elizabeth. You have twenty minutes to get here!"
His voice was menacing. Elizabeth could picture his furious face.
She asked, "If I don't make it in twenty minutes..."
Alexander sneered. "Elizabeth, you wouldn't want me to surround the Percy estate, would you?"
Elizabeth was silent. Alexander would definitely do that.
In her mind, she cursed Felix over and over again! 'He really messed me up!'
Elizabeth quickly changed clothes and drove off in a hurry.
