Chapter 100 If You Dare Touch Moon, I'll Take Your Life!
Ethan shot Alexander a suspicious look, knowing he wasn't messing around as their eyes locked.
"I'll hand him over, but you gotta promise he'll be safe," Ethan said.
Alexander smirked. "First time I've seen you care about someone's safety. You even threw one brother under the bus to save another."
Ethan's heart stung at the jab, and he swung his fist at Alexander!
Before the punch could land, Catherine calmly said, "Hit him, and I won't save your brother."
Alexander's eyes crinkled with a warm smile as he listened to Catherine stand up for him, the light in his eyes reflecting a deep affection. 'It's nice that Catherine cares about me now,' he thought.
Ethan's fist stopped just two inches from Alexander's face!
He looked at Alexander and Catherine, confused, and asked, "Isn't Phantom Doctor Moon with the Faceless Ones? When did you team up with Nightfall from the Shadow Syndicate? If you're leaving the Faceless Ones, why not join the Abyssal Blades? Whatever the Shadow Syndicate offers, I'll double it—no, triple it!"
Ethan was convinced Alexander and Catherine were together because Alexander had snagged the consultation order that Phantom Doctor Moon posted on the dark web. He checked around and didn't see any Faceless Ones, which meant this consultation was a personal gig, not tied to the Faceless Ones.
"Moon, Abyssal Blades is your best bet. Join us, and I'll agree to any condition you have! If Blackfire from the Faceless Ones knew Nightfall stole his subordinate, I wonder how he'd feel. But Abyssal Blades can definitely keep you safe!" Ethan said.
Alexander sneered, "Can't even snag a consultation order, and you think you're better than the Shadow Syndicate?"
Ethan fumed, remembering the last consultation order. 'I haven't operated in Stellara before, so I'm not familiar with things here. Last time, my internet lagged during the snatch! If it weren't for that, I would've gotten the consultation order.'
"Moon, I'll give you any amount of money you want!" Ethan continued.
Catherine pulled out a piece of paper with a bank account number on it and said, "Three hundred million dollars, today's consultation fee. Transfer it first."
Ethan stared at the bank account number, momentarily bewildered. "The consultation fee was agreed upon, but you haven't told me how my brother's doing!"
Catherine, wearing a mask and hat, revealed only a pair of cold eyes, staring at Ethan as she said, "Register first, then see the doctor. Got it?"
The patient in bed started coughing violently, his pale face turning red from the effort. After coughing, bright red blood stained the white sheets. He gasped for breath, looking at Ethan with a weak smile. "Don't save me. My life isn't worth much."
Ethan's eyes reddened, and he picked up his phone to transfer the money, shouting, "I haven't given you permission to die."
Catherine tore up the piece of paper with the bank account number, lit it, and tossed it into the nearby trash can. The specially treated paper quickly turned to ashes. "Brain cancer. He needs surgery, but the surgery requires Dream grass. You have it, right? If you got nothing from your meeting with Eli, then you're out of luck."
The news of Ethan meeting Eli wasn't a secret on the dark web.
Ethan nodded. "I have it. When can the surgery be done, and what needs to be prepared?"
"I need to call in three of my people to help prep for the surgery," Catherine said.
Ethan instinctively shot back, "No way! I've got my own doctors ready. You can work with them. I don't trust your people."
Catherine's eyes turned icy as she met Ethan's wary gaze. "I don't trust your people either."
Ethan gritted his teeth, standing firm. "My people won't harm my brother. What if your people do something during the surgery?"
"Then there's no need for cooperation. Since you have doctors, you can find someone else to operate on him," Catherine said, peeling off her disposable gloves and pretending to leave.
When Ethan saw her about to walk out, his arm twitched, and he reached out towards Catherine.
Before he could touch her, he got a solid punch.
"Ethan, I warned you. If you touch Moon, I'll kill you!" Alexander said.
"You..." Ethan started to speak but got another punch to the face.
Alexander rubbed his wrist, standing protectively beside Catherine.
The man on the bed struggled to help the fallen Ethan. As he moved, a few books by his side tumbled to the floor.
Catherine bent down to pick them up. They were comic books!
Ethan wiped the blood from his mouth and said, "I'm fine. Moon, please save my brother. I'll let your people into the operating room, but I also want to be inside to watch. Don't worry; I won't get in the way."
Catherine casually flipped through the comics and handed them back to the patient.
"Even if you're in the room during the surgery, if I wanted to harm your brother, there's nothing you could do," Catherine said, slipping her hand into her white coat and turning to look at Ethan with cold eyes. "If I don't save him, he will definitely die. Why would I harm him? Ruining your reputation is something you Abyssal Blades people might do, but I wouldn't stoop to that."
Cooperation between organizations was often needed to complete tasks at the border, and the Abyssal Blades frequently caused trouble for others by seeking personal gain, always bringing them considerable trouble.
Ethan's face turned red. "As long as you're willing to join Abyssal Blades, you'll be our second-in-command!"
Alexander's hand rested on Catherine's shoulder, his cold eyes fixed on Ethan. 'Trying to poach someone right in front of me? You should know better than to think you can pull it off!' he thought.
"I'm not interested in the Abyssal Blades. Since the patient has already fasted, the surgery will be in an hour. If my people can't come in, the surgery won't start. You decide when to let them in," Catherine said, giving Ethan a cold glance. "After all, it's not me who needs saving. His condition is very bad, and delaying any longer might kill him."
Ethan's face was full of conflicted emotions!
Leaving the ward, Catherine and Alexander returned to the office one after the other.
Taking off her mask, Catherine let out a long sigh of relief.
"What's wrong? Is the surgery very tricky?" Alexander asked.
"I've seen trickier surgeries. I'm just wondering why Ethan's brother is reading the same comic Marcus read."
That comic wasn't a popular genre, and the artist wasn't well-known.
After returning from Bright Heal Hospital, Catherine had found and read all the comics by that artist.
Marcus had come across that comic by chance while visiting someone for a chess game, and it piqued his interest. He even learned Novia just to follow the serialized story because he found the domestic translations too slow.
The old man who gave Marcus the comic had been discharged last month.
Catherine always felt that there were more secrets hidden in that comic!
