Chapter 148 I Want You to Spend the Whole Day with Me
Michael's tone was getting edgy. "What is it, exactly?"
Esme fiddled with the hem of her skirt, gathering the nerve to look Michael in the eye and speak slowly, "Ever heard of Vitality Pills?"
Michael shot up straight, staring at Esme like she had two heads. "Vitality Pills? You mean that legendary black market wonder drug? Is that what you're offering?"
Seeing Michael's reaction, Esme brightened up. "I can get my hands on Vitality Pills. If you're interested, we can talk more about working together. I heard Mr. Anthony Hughes isn't doing so well. If you bring him the Vitality Pills, your standing in the Hughes family will skyrocket."
'If I can get those Vitality Pills for Anthony, no one in the Hughes family will be able to touch me,' Michael thought, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "Deal."
Over in Imperia City, at the police station.
Oliver sat in a wheelchair, looking desperately at the officer in front of him. "Sir, we're telling the truth! I got beat up, and my whole family almost died. You can't just ignore this!"
"Do you have a lawyer?" the officer asked.
'A lawyer? Do I need a lawyer just to file a report now? Look at our faces, we're covered in bruises; isn't that enough proof? Why do we need a lawyer? I can't afford one. I haven't even paid the lawyer's fee from when I talked about compensation with Martin earlier.' It made Oliver grit his teeth to think about how he used to be the richest guy in Serenitia City but ended up like this.
The officer, clearly annoyed, said, "I've asked you a bunch of times. You can't even explain what happened clearly and just keep saying you were beaten. The surveillance footage shows everything was normal."
Oliver quickly spoke up, "The surveillance! Yeah, the person who pushed me out is the one who beat me!"
The officer pointed at the footage, looking frustrated. "Who pushed you? Didn't you wheel yourself out?"
Oliver looked and was completely stunned, thinking, 'The guy who pushed my wheelchair isn't in the surveillance range. No wonder he stayed in the corner the whole time. He planned to set me up from the start!'
Oliver and the Brown family couldn't remember what had happened. They just knew that when they woke up, they were all lying in the wilderness, almost frozen to death!
Oliver had a wound on his leg. Seeing the wound reminded him of Catherine's last look at him, making him shiver all over and wonder why Catherine was so different from before.
Leaving the police station, Oliver looked at Celeste. "This was all Catherine's plan. She must have gone crazy after we kicked her out! We need to go to Tranquil County and find her family!"
Oliver was still thinking about the compensation from Tranquil County. 'I found out that the compensation in Tranquil County is calculated per person. Catherine's family has so many people, including four unmarried brothers, so they must have received a lot of money. The Smith family is now struggling to make ends meet. I don't believe that once we find Catherine's biological family, they won't give us money!'
Galactic Aurora Collective Lab.
The experimental data was spread out in front of her as Catherine looked at the report, frowning slightly.
The Galactic Aurora Collective lab had many collaborations with the lab Juniper was in charge of.
From the data, it seemed there were some issues within Juniper's lab.
"Miss, from this data, it seems the lab in Tranquil County has some minor issues. Should we send someone to check it out?"
Catherine put away the report. "No need, I'll go."
Catherine had told Juniper earlier she'd find time to visit Tranquil County, and she could also check out the Windsor family estate while she was there. If she went to Tranquil County, she could quickly sort out any issues that popped up.
Catherine called Aurora to let her know about the trip. When Aurora heard Catherine was going to see Juniper, she was all for it.
Aurora was thrilled to see the kids getting along so well. Before Catherine came back home, she had worried that Juniper and Catherine might not hit it off, and it would break her heart if either of them were unhappy. Now, seeing them so close, Aurora felt like the happiest mom in the world, with two loving daughters!
"Alright, I'll pack your stuff. There are also a bunch of gifts for Juniper. She loves the homemade coleslaw, so take a few jars with you," Aurora suggested.
"Okay, I'll come home to get them."
After chatting for a bit, Aurora was still busy buying Juniper's favorite desserts to take along before Catherine hung up the phone.
When Catherine got back to the Windsor Mansion, she saw bags and packages piled up in the living room, with Aurora still worried it wasn't enough. "Catherine, think about what else you can take. Juniper has been living in the lab and looks so thin."
Without waiting for Catherine to respond, Aurora went back to get more things. Anyone who didn't know might think Catherine was moving out.
"This should be enough. Marcus is napping, so I won't wake him," Aurora said.
"Alright, I'll be back in a couple of days."
The Windsor family car was waiting nearby. Catherine, with all the bags and packages, got in and headed towards Tranquil County.
Dylan chuckled. "Miss, it takes about two hours to get there. You can rest for a bit."
Catherine nodded, picking up the prepared documents. Based on her judgment, there seemed to be some issues with the equipment in Juniper's lab.
Just as the car left Imperia City, Catherine's phone rang.
Alexander's voice came through the receiver, "Remember you promised to have dinner with me? What do you want to eat?"
It was still a long time before dinner, and Alexander just wanted an excuse to talk to her. If he didn't remind her, she would probably forget about it.
Catherine looked at the rapidly retreating scenery. "Sorry, I forgot."
Catherine had already left Imperia City, so it was too late to go back and have dinner with Alexander.
"No problem, the agreed time was for dinner. It's not too late to remember now."
"I'm not in Imperia City. I probably can't make it anytime soon."
Alexander pressed his temples, stood up from his chair, and walked to the tall floor-to-ceiling window. The towering buildings and flowing river outside didn't catch his eye. "Where did you go? Do you need me to come with you?"
"No, I'm just going to Tranquil County to visit Juniper," she replied.
Alexander's voice was a bit bitter. "In your eyes, family is so important that you can forget our promise?"
It was indeed her fault for forgetting. Catherine bit her lip and gripped her phone tightly. "Sorry, it's my fault. I'll have dinner with you when I get back."
"No," Alexander's voice was a bit aggrieved, but his lips curled up slightly. "I want you to spend the whole day with me!"
Catherine had many things to do. Spending an entire day with Alexander would be difficult. It was her fault for forgetting the promise, making him sad and aggrieved. The words of refusal were on the tip of her tongue, but she couldn't say a word. Catherine had no choice but to nod and agree. "Alright, I'll spend the whole day with you."
