Chapter 257 Was This the Feeling of Falling in Love?
Watching Alexander and Catherine stroll hand in hand, Neil was on cloud nine. He thought, 'This deep forest is perfect for sparking romance! If a poisonous snake pops up and Catherine casually takes it out, won't Alexander be totally smitten? Or if a wild bear shows up and she takes it down, he'll be glued to her side after being saved by such a badass beauty! And if a wild boar goes wild and she kills it, Alexander will definitely fall head over heels!'
Neil smirked inwardly, 'I've always known Catherine's got mad skills. This obstacle might be tough for most, but she's been rock climbing with her bare hands since she was five. Only someone as good-looking as Alexander would think she's a delicate flower!'
Seeing Alexander and Catherine looking the same as when they left, Neil was getting anxious!
With Catherine around, finding Richard wouldn't be a problem.
Alexander held Catherine's hand, keeping her behind him, his eyes scanning the nearby bushes warily.
A rustling sound came from the bushes, and a snake's tail peeked out.
"Watch out!" Alexander said.
The mountains around the village were crawling with snakes.
Not far from them, a small snake with a triangular head flicked its tongue in their direction, its eyes looking sinister!
"It's fine. I got this," Catherine said, wanting to mention she had plenty of pre-prepared medicinal powder.
Having lived in the village for years, she knew the local wildlife like the back of her hand.
When she was younger and her family was poor, Catherine would secretly catch poisonous snakes to sell for extra cash.
But Alexander cut her off, keeping her firmly behind him and pulling out a knife from his pocket. "I'm here; you don't need to step in!"
Alexander wasn't about to let Catherine face a poisonous snake alone while he stood by and watched!
"Just be careful," she said.
"Don't worry, I'll be quick!"
The snake flicked its tongue and slithered towards them. In a flash, Alexander's hand grabbed the snake's weak spot, and he stabbed its head with the knife, pinning it to the ground!
His movements were swift and smooth, his arm muscles bulging as the snake's tail wrapped around his wrist, slowly losing its grip.
Catherine looked at Alexander with a newfound admiration.
In such a situation, he could still unhesitatingly protect her.
Alexander didn't notice Catherine's gaze. He quickly disposed of the snake, pulled out the knife, and continued walking forward, holding Catherine's hand.
The Brown Family's old house was pretty run-down, and Catherine quickly found it.
As she pushed open the gate, a strong smell of blood hit her!
Following the scent, Catherine immediately saw Richard and Sophia lying unconscious inside the house.
After calling out a few times without waking them, she checked their pulses and confirmed they were normal and had no injuries, just knocked out from inhaling too much ether.
Catherine breathed a slight sigh of relief; as long as they were okay.
"Catherine, come check this out." Outside the yard, Alexander was squatting by a vegetable garden, waving her over.
After making sure Richard and Sophia were okay, Catherine walked over to Alexander and followed his gaze.
All the chickens and ducks in the garden were dead, and amidst the large bloodstains lay a man covered in wounds, unconscious!
"Brent? So, Richard and Sophia's situation is tied to him," she said.
As Catherine was about to step into the garden, Alexander grabbed her hand and softly said, "Let me handle it; no need to get your hands dirty."
His tone was firm, and he walked into the garden without hesitation. After checking Brent's pulse and breathing, he looked up and said, "He's still alive."
Catherine raised an eyebrow slightly. "Thanks."
'How did Alexander know I wanted to know Brent's condition? It's like we're always in sync; I don't even have to say anything, and he gets me,' she thought.
Alexander didn't rush out. His cold eyes fell on the unconscious Brent, a flicker of emotion in them that Catherine couldn't quite read.
Alexander's tall figure was striking even in a half-squat, surrounded by a half-dead man and a yard full of dead chickens and ducks, creating a bizarre scene.
Catherine had to ask, "Alexander, what's up?"
Alexander's voice was a bit hoarse. "Catherine, I'm actually kind of envious of this guy."
'Envious of who? Brent? How could someone like Alexander, a privileged guy, be envious of a small-town thug?' Catherine wondered.
Alexander brushed off his hands and stood up, walking towards Catherine against the light. "He knew you since childhood and grew up with you. I'm actually a bit jealous!"
It was the first time Catherine had heard such honest words!
Alexander stopped a few steps away from Catherine. "I'm covered in blood; I don't want to dirty you, so stay a bit away."
She was also covered in blood from checking Richard and Sophia's condition, with her hands stained by the blood in the house.
Catherine took a step forward. "It's okay."
A layer of light fell on Alexander's face, and his gaze at Catherine was incredibly tender.
With the village sunlight behind him, the shadow in front of him enveloped Catherine, as if he was claiming her as his own!
His Adam's apple bobbed, adding a touch of sexiness. His voice was seductive and hoarse. "Catherine, I really like you. If I had known you when we were kids, I might have hung around your house every day."
Catherine looked up at Alexander. "But Felix said you had a girlfriend before."
Alexander was stunned, a hint of panic in his eyes! "Those are just rumors. I never had a girlfriend. You are my first love."
'Felix spread such rumors in front of Catherine! If he scares her away, how will Felix handle it!' Alexander thought.
Seeing Alexander fumbling to explain, not daring to approach her because of the blood on his hands, Catherine couldn't help but laugh. "Just kidding, Felix said you had no romantic history."
'Alexander said I was his first love. As for me, I'm not sure what my feelings for Alexander are! Now, with Alexander so close, I don't feel repulsed. Instead, when he looks at me intensely, I feel my heart race. Is this the feeling of falling in love?' Catherine wondered.
