Chapter 66 Since You Can't Learn to Complain, I'll Find Out Your Grievances Myself
Marcus's eyes went ice-cold. He squinted at the folks in front of him, quickly realizing it was Catherine's old foster parents.
'The nerve of these people showing up here,' he thought.
Catherine, cool as a cucumber, said, "If I remember right, you already put it in the paper that you cut ties with me. We're strangers now. Move along, or don't blame me for what happens next."
Oliver looked a bit embarrassed but wasn't ready to let Catherine go.
Lucas, with all the drama, gazed at Catherine like she was the last slice of pizza and said, "Catherine, come back to me. I wanna rekindle what we had. I know you love me, and I can't stop thinking about you. You're the most beautiful woman in my life. I know you're just testing me!"
Catherine was speechless. 'Is this guy for real?'
Clara's face twisted with anger. She bit her lip, feeling humiliated and resentful as she glared at Catherine.
'That damn Catherine must've been sneaking around with Lucas! She's already someone else's girl, so why's she still messing with Lucas!'
Catherine shot him a look, "There's a thing called delusional disorder. Fits you perfectly. Maybe see a shrink."
Lucas looked confused. 'Delusional disorder? Mental illness? What the heck?'
The nearby medical staff couldn't help but snicker.
Seeing Catherine about to push Marcus away, Lucas got desperate and said, "Catherine, don't leave me!"
Catherine, still calm, said, "Andrew, get rid of them."
Andrew snapped to attention and said, "Yes, ma'am!"
A few special forces guys formed a solid wall, blocking Oliver and his crew with no gaps.
"Please leave!"
Oliver still tried to push his luck, holding out a gift and saying eagerly, "Sir, we haven't given the gift we brought for Mr. Windsor! Please, make an exception, or at least give it to the caregiver who was just here. I'm her father! Let her pass it to Mr. Windsor!"
Andrew was puzzled.
'Who are you calling a caregiver? Catherine? And he's claiming to be her dad? This guy's nuts. We saw Catherine's real parents this morning!'
Hearing that Catherine was supposedly a caregiver, the fire in Lucas's eyes dimmed a bit.
Andrew completely ignored them, waving his hand to have his men drive Oliver and his group away.
It was the first time Molly had seen something like this, and her expression was all over the place. She looked at the Smith family with pure sarcasm.
"Some people treat trash like treasure, and now they're trying to cozy up, but no one's paying attention to you," Molly said.
Oliver felt a bit embarrassed and said, "Isn't it inappropriate for you to say that? Clara is our biological daughter."
"Didn't you hear Lucas just say he likes Catherine?"
Molly rolled her eyes, bumped the pale-faced Clara aside, and pushed Lucas out of the hospital.
Celeste was fuming. "What does the Johnson family mean by this? What do they mean by liking Catherine? Catherine is just a caregiver now!"
Oliver was also fuming, just looking at Celeste, and he said, "I told you not to rush, but you insisted on announcing the severance of ties with Catherine in the paper. Now what! Catherine completely resents us! If she badmouths us to Marcus, we're toast!"
"So what do you suggest? She's already blocked me!" Celeste said.
Thinking of this, Celeste felt that Catherine was simply heartless.
'Not as considerate and understanding as Clara at all!'
"Alright, I'll call her later. Coming back to our family is impossible, but at least she can say some good things about us to Marcus. Mr. Howard hasn't shown up today. Let's wait a bit longer," Oliver said.
Clara stood behind them, her face completely drained of color!
When Clara was a kid, she entered a painting competition and tried to swap her painting with Catherine's. Somehow, someone found out and tossed her into a trash can. The Smith family's bodyguards searched for days before finding her!
This was her biggest humiliation ever!
The Johnson family bringing this up was like rubbing salt in her wound, with zero regard for her feelings.
'They must still be thinking about Catherine! If I could just find a way to expose her secrets...' Clara's eyes darted around, filled with determination.
A sleek, fancy Cayenne rolled into the hospital, zooming past the Smith family, leaving only a flash of luxury behind.
"That's Mr. Howard's car! Quick, let's follow it!" The Smith family hurriedly jogged after the car, afraid of missing Alexander getting out.
Annie saw the three people running behind through the rearview mirror.
'Aren't those Catherine's old foster parents? Have they found a new hobby, practicing marathon running at the hospital?'
"Mr. Howard, Catherine's foster parents are behind your car. Want me to handle it?" Annie asked.
Alexander's brow furrowed slightly.
'These people are bothering Catherine again?'
"Ignore them. Find out why they're looking for Catherine."
Annie pursed her lips in disdain, "It can't be anything good. Their family never treated Catherine well. They must be here to bother her."
Alexander's gaze turned icy, his usually refined and elegant face now covered in frost.
'They bullied my fiancée like this? No way I'm letting them off easy!'
"Teach them a lesson," he said.
"Got it!"
Annie's eyes sparkled with excitement. She rubbed her hands together and turned the car around, heading towards the Smith family.
Seeing the car suddenly turn, Oliver almost jumped up in excitement and said, "Mr. Howard must have seen us and wants to talk business! The Smith family is saved! Clara, make sure you look presentable. We can't embarrass ourselves in front of Mr. Howard!"
Clara was equally excited. Although she liked Lucas, if Alexander took a fancy to her, she might secure an even better match.
Celeste looked at the Cayenne, a bit uncertain, "Oliver, are you sure he's here to talk business with us? Something feels off."
"Nonsense!" Oliver was still dreaming, but then he saw the Cayenne showing no signs of slowing down and the driver even stepped on the gas!
The Cayenne sped past, almost grazing the Smith family, knocking a corner off the flower bed by the roadside!
The Cayenne quickly disappeared at the intersection, driving straight into the hospital.
The Smith family was nearly scared out of their wits!
Oliver looked terrified, as if the sharp wind from the car had scraped past his face like a knife, both painful and terrifying!
'That wasn't a car; it was the scythe of death!'
Celeste was so scared that she plopped down on the ground, looking lost, and she said, "This is attempted murder! They want to kill us! I'm calling the police!"
Oliver gritted his teeth and angrily said, "Call the police? What happened to you? What evidence do you have? We can't even get our car into the hospital, but Mr. Howard can speed inside! Even if you call the police, do you think the Howard family will let you off?"
Celeste's eyes rolled back, and she fainted!
Oliver and Clara hurriedly and clumsily took her to the emergency room. Fortunately, they were already at the hospital, making it convenient to see a doctor.
Catherine stood upstairs, speechless as she watched the scene unfold.
She didn't care about the Smith family. Whatever they did now had nothing to do with her.
As for Alexander...
She glanced at him as he walked into the ward, taking off his coat and walking towards her. He had a half-smile, but his eyes were filled with infinite tenderness.
"Are you three years old? So childish," she said.
"If I were three, I would have hit them directly."
Alexander walked up to Catherine, leaning in close to her, his smile filled with lingering tenderness, like the intoxicating spring light.
"I'm not magnanimous enough to let anyone who bullies you off the hook. Since you can't learn to complain, I'll find out your grievances myself," he said.
